Grab a “Naughty Nine” passport at any of the nine Christmas bars and enjoy the stroll around Downtown Manteo with a drink in hand, and turn in your completed passport at any bar for a chance to win the Week Four Prize Pack!

In 2019, Lucky 12 Tavern owner Mark Ballog established “JINGLE 12” as a pop-up Christmas bar with a dream of making the Outer Banks a festive destination for the holiday season. In 2022, Mark partnered up with a few other iconic Outer Banks bars to join him in a holiday rebranding (“Goombrrrs” by Goombays; “Mama Claus’s” by Mama Kwan's; and “The Broken Candy Cane” by Bonzer Shack) to join Jingle 12 as “Christmas Island,” a union of four festive pop-up Christmas bars to celebrate the season. The same year, Lost Colony Tavern became “Frost Colony Tavern” to represent Roanoke Island in Mark’s efforts to make the OBX a seasonal holiday destination during a historically slow month.

In 2023, “Christmas Island” expanded to 12 locations, collectively known as The 12 Bars of Christmas, while the newly-established Downtown Manteo Social District united the nine bars within the state-sanctioned social district as The Naughty Nine for a walkable bar crawl around the downtown waterfront shopping & entertainment district, bringing the number of Outer Banks Christmas bars to 21 exciting festive stops.

In 2024, the “Misfits Bar Crawl” joined the fold, adding another 15 bars to the roster, surging the number of Outer Banks pop-up Christmas bars to 36.

With three local bar crawls encompassing 36 Christmas bars, Mark Ballog’s vision continues to expand, and we can’t wait to see where this momentum leads to in 2025!

We raise a glass to Mr. Ballog for setting into motion this exciting, festive atmosphere across the entire Outer Banks!!

WEEK ONE WINNER!!! The first round of completed passports was collected from each of the nine Christmas bars, and WE HAVE A WINNER!! Belinda Keller — owner of “OLD SAINT NICK’S,” a pop-up Christmas bar by Old Tom's Beer Wine & Provisions — pulled a competed “Naughty Nine” passport at random and the winner is…Misty Smith from Maryland! Each week throughout December, we will randomly select a completed passport, and owner of which will receive a Naughty Nine Prize Pack loaded with gift cards from each of the nine Christmas bars, hats, T-shirts, koozies, stickers, and a HAND-PAINTED Christmas tree ornament created by the legendary Britton “Moondog” Ricketts.
