And if you are wondering what to grab with that 10% off, well lets keep the toasted barrel train going and jump over to a crowd fav with...

Basil Hayden Toast-
This 80 proof offering from the Basil Hayden offshoot of the Beam family tree has no official age but it is 4+ from what I could find, with a unique mashbill of 63% corn, 27% brown rice and 10% malted barley, aged in normal char barrels before being finished in toasted barrels for a undisclosed amount of time, but how dose the mashbill switchup and toasted barrel finish translate to enjoyment? Well... On the nose, get ready for sweetness with toasted marshmallow and a bit of brown sugar, a soft touch of oak keeps it from being overly sweet while a little bit of dried apricot and plum round it out, giving it a swirl a faint bit of nuttiness joins in that is so iconic to Beam products it's not complex and no real sniffing around brings out anything else, but it is inviting and enjoyable. Hitting the tongue it has a nice oily feel but a bit of a thin body, still toffee, butterscotch, and a bit of roasted nut comes quick with a nice touch of honey and vanilla that gives a excellent sweet sip, a bit of oak and pepper joins in to temper the sweetness, like the nose, this it isn't complex, no hidden flavors, but it also doesn't need them. The finish comes quick and goes quick, short with a sudden uptick of tannin with oak, and plenty of spice as char, cinnamon, clove and baking spice dominate, while hints of honey and vanilla keep it from being too hot.

And now that the shilling is over, lets talk toasted barrel whiskey, we covered the toasted barrel strength Penelope, lets talk about the one of the best gateway ryes out there with...
Penelope Toasted Rye!
Aged in char 1 barrels and finished in fresh heavy toasted casks, made from 100% rye mashbill and aged 4-6 years. This one is rich on the nose, full of rye spice and charred oak, notes of cinnamon playing though to give it a nice spicy scent, letting it air and giving it a swirl brings out a bit of leather and caramel, with a touch of stone fruit joining in to give it a very inviting spicey and sweet smell. On the tongue it’s thick bodied and oily, almost feeling like sipping on cough syrup, Oak, clove, cinnamon, char and to***co playing together while notes of vanilla and burnt sugar keep it from being too spice or tannin heavy. Its medium finish is where the real treat is for those who like heat, with rye spice, cracked pepper and cinnamon dominating, while vanilla and honey keep it honest, leaving a cinnamon candy lingering taste on the tongue.

It's finally Friday! Is it just us or did that last week feel like 3?
The holiday season is coming quick, with just under a week until Thanksgiving and extended family, so make sure you stop by and see your friends at In and Out Beverage to take advantage of our Thanksgiving specials, with 10% off everything in store though Thanksgiving, or stock up on wine with 20% off 6 bottles mix and match!

And speaking of liquors to stock up, let's talk about Penelope bourbon, and their excellent toasted series!

Penelope Toasted Barrel-
Aged in a heavy toasted barrel and finished in a char 1 barrel before being bottled at 112. The mashbill is a blend of 3 different 4 grain picks of Penelope from MGP and their age statement is only 4-6 years, so as always getting the important details from Penelope is a bit frustrating, but how dose it stand up? On the nose the first thing that stands out is the vanilla, fairly rich and coming out swinging it quickly calms down with a bit of oak and char joining in, along with notes of peanut brittle and cherries, giving it a pretty inviting and sweet nose for a toasted barrel strength. On the tongue it’s a little thin but oily enough to give a pretty good feel, in contrast to the sweet nosing, it starts a bit dry with the oak and char coming first to me and a hint of smoke, before being tamed by creamy toffee and dark cherries, sipping though slowly brings a bit of rye and baking spice that leads nicely to its medium finish, with dark cherries and rich vanilla playing with cinnamon and a soft touch of oak to let it end on a sweet note that lingers.

Well the rain has dried up (for now) but its still gray and miserable today... perfect day to stay in and cheer for your favorite team!

And don't forget to stock up on your needed drinks before the games (or during them with UberEats!) with your friends here at In and Out Beverage Kennesaw! Make sure to take advantage of our 10% off anything in the store Thanksgiving special or 20% off 6 bottles of wine or more.

And speaking of bottles, here's one to take a try for...

Paul Sutton 6yr bottled in bond~
Using a century old family mashbill, Myra Barginear has brought her grandfathers bourbon to us in the modern age. This single barrel 100 proof offering uses heirloom corn, rye, and mashed barley (Sadly i couldn't find out the percentages) aged for 6 years in char 4 new American white oak barrels. On the nose a soft oaky smell is the first thing to hit before being joined by a bit of grass with floral notes, giving it a swirl and letting it breath brings out rich caramel and a bit of orchard fruit, while soft rye spice rounds it out. On the tongue this is a curious one, a little thin and dry, it however has far more bold flavors then expected. Rye and baking spice, clove, and a bit of black pepper come hard, tempered with charred oak and leather to keep the spices tamed, soft touches of honey round out the initial sips, while chewing brings out light touches of caramel and a nice rich vanilla, the spice and tannin's never go away however, and always remain on top of the sweetness, giving this a bold stronger taste that leads nicely to its medium finish with citrus and honey tempering the green pepper and clove, while leather and to***co play in the background.

What a Moody Saturday, late post but we blame the weather!

Don't forget all the way though Thanksgiving we are showing our thanks to all of you our amazing customers with 10% off everything in the store, and a additional 10% off mix and match 6 bottles of wine (for 20% off the wine only). So make sure you stock up for the the family here with your friends at In and Out Beverage Kennesaw!

So with the cold dreary weather, lets talk about something to warm you up, Tequila! We covered the Patron El Cielo, and now we look at their other offering, El Alto Reposado!

The second offering from Patron trying to break back into the high end tequila market, while Cielo fell short of its goal in our eyes, the Alto shows some real promise. Before we talk about the taste, we would like to mention its packaging is stunning, the box unfolds into a Agave flower and we just think that's neat, and the bottle is a nice design itself, for those who like to get crafty with empty bottles. Likewise it is a blend of a four year Extra Añejo, with Añejo and Repo tequilas, from 11 different barrels with American oak bodies and French oak heads. Now lets talk about the tequila itself.

On the nose there remains that faint whiff of ethanol that at this point I just feel is a signature of Patron, but it quickly gives way to agave nectar, a hint of smoke, with notes of citrus playing in the back, with a bit of a swirl it bring outs floral notes and a bear hint of vanilla that you have to hunt for. On the tongue is where it shows up however, with a medium oily body and very smooth and approachable, sweet agave nectar, charred oak, a bit of vanilla and some orange zest greeted me first, maturing floral notes and a more generic citrus zest, mixing with a hint of smoke and char, still sightly sweet that leads to its finish where a bit of pepper remained on my tongue and a nice bit of heat on it. While it still in my eyes falls short of its goal of being a true high end tequila, and doesn't really live up to the companies taste profile claims, El Alto should be considered top shelf, it's smooth, tasty, and something I can sit back and sip on in addition to just some shots, with a excellent aftertaste to bring me back for more.
(I know I know, the first Patron product I would ever recommend willingly, go figure! Just shows how much of a step up this one is.)

Happy Sunday!! The warm weather and bright days continue (Starting to think I just hallucinated the freezing days last week) and its a great day for football!

Just a reminder to keep your eyes on here next week for some Holiday announcements, in addition to our usual reviewing nonsense! And speaking of reviews, lets talk something near to my heart, tequila with..

Patron El Cielo-
Anyone who has spoken to your reviewer knows I don't have a high opinion of patron beyond their amazing marketing skills, so you might be wondering why I am reviewing this? Well in a word, this is a bit of a different beast. With the explosion of tequila on the market and the rise of high end tequila, Patron has decided to jump into the fray with their El series of tequila. The first and most obvious thing is the unique bottling, with gold foil on the stopper, but how dose it stack up? Well... On the nose this feels like a normal patron, with the astringent ethanol on full display at first pour, slowly mellowing as a bit of citrus comes in and takes over with a softly sweet. On the tongue the ethanol remains, along with the citrus for a slightly sweet introduction sip, a little oily on the tongue its fairly smooth with a bit of kickin bump to it, because its a blanco there isn't much complexity to the taste beyond the ethanol and sweet citrus, however a touch of vanilla dose show up on the backend, while the tequila burn remains, leaving a bit of a sweet taste on the tongue while catching a good warmth in the chest.

Overall it fails to reach its goal of catching up to many of the high end tequila's on the market, while it is smoother and has a better taste then normal patron, and a decent buy as a gift for someone who likes patron, there are better tequila's on the market.

Happy warming up weekend! Hopefully everyone is thawed out and ready to get out and go (and since I'm scheduling this post on Thursday I reeeeeeally hope GA doesn't pull a fast one on me with the weather!) Hopefully everyone is enjoying their days, either and about or watching some Dawgs and later Bama, and don't forget if you forgot anything this weekend, your friends here at In and Out Beverage are just a UberEats away from some beer or liquor for whatever your plans are. And speaking of Liquor, lets take a peek at our next review!

Tumbling Dice Bourbon-
A 3 year old 100 proof offering from proof and wood ventures, a upstart from the brains behind Redemption distillery, with a rye heavy mashbill of 60% Corn, 36% Rye and 4% Barley. Founded after selling Redemption it has quietly been producing some great whiskies. On the nose this one stands out, with a rich oak char and a mix of rye and cinnamon spice, giving it a swirl brings out a bit of cocoa and a touch of dark fruit (mostly cherry and a bit of plum), on the tongue it is shockingly balanced and with rich flavor for a younger bourbon though still a little thin feeling in the mouth. A bit of peanut brittle and touch of cocoa balanced dill, clove, and rye spice for a bit of sweet spice, the taste maturing a little as a bit of oak char, dark fruit and caramel join in while the spice is slowly replaced with a bit of baking spice while keeping the clove leading to the long warm finish, full of spice and oak, with light touches of caramel and vanilla.

Happy chilly Friday everyone, it might be a bit nippy but its warming up after that snap! (and hopefully no one had any pipes go bad!) You're friends here at In and Out Beverage Kennesaw have some stuff lined up these next two months (Weird how time flies) so keep your eyes peeled as we roll out some sales and specials for the holiday season!

Speaking of the season and the cold, lets talk some bourbon, or more to the point this bourbon with our newest review!
Barman 1873-
The newest offering from Coors lite, this bourbon is made with a blend from Bardstown and a unnamed source in Indiana (so most likely MGP), While I was unable to find a mashbill for either of the whiskeys used, the various sources I found agreed on it being at least 4 years old, so that’s something! Coors surprised us before with Five trails, so lets see how this one turns out. On the nose it’s a bit light, needing a bit of a sniff, with plenty of grain and soft oak, faint notes of dark cherries, a bit of pepper and soft caramel can be found with a bit of sniffing, swirling it brings out some vanilla and a bit of clove to keep the balance of spice and sweet. On the tongue it gives a nice kick, oily and full bodied in the mouth, this is one for those who like their bourbon dryer, with fresh oak, and to***co mixed in with the ethanol, a bit of all-spice gives it a soft kick, slowly maturing with cracked black pepper, clove and a bit of rye spice, while light notes of caramel join in. This all leads to its medium finish, where cinnamon and rye spice take center stage, along with a bit of leather and toffee to keep some sweetness in there and keep it from being pure spice on the end.

Its a Dawg day Saturday, great games, great weather, and if you come on by to see your friends here at In and Out Beverage Kennesaw, great drinks as well!

And rolling on into those great drinks we have another review for you all with..

Heaven Hill 7 year bottled in bond-
A year older and with a new cap design, this is a remake of the now discontinued Heaven Hill 6 year bottled in bond that was only available in Kentucky for years. Rebranded and aged one year more for nation wide release, lets go ahead and dive on in. A mashbill of 78% corn, 12% Barley, and 10% rye aged 7 years and bottled at 100 proof (as you’d expect with the name.) On the nose rich caramel and vanilla stand out giving it a sweet invite while being tempered by a soft dry oak and a bit of roasted peanuts, giving it a swirl brings out a bit of aged leather and a touch of citrus, there is a light herb scent that I can’t pin down though the whole thing. On the tongue, vanilla and charred oak blend to give a inviting first hit of taste, before opening up with orchard fruit and leather, a bit of cinnamon and baking spices pop in at the start and slowly grow a little warmer as you go, with the spice building alongside the sweetness before pushing the dryer oak and leather out of the way, while cocoa and a bit of butterscotch come in leading to the finish. Long and warm, cocoa and caramel lead the way with rye, clove and cinnamon balancing the sweetness, the heat and spice never growing too strong but giving a nice warmth in the chest and tickle in the throat. Overall this is a really enjoyable sipper, however for a 7 year, it doesn’t have the uniqueness I would expect, with more of standard good bourbon flavor profile that’s been dialed up to 7 (ha!.. look let me have my bad jokes)

Sweetens Cove Kennesse Blended Bourbon
Coming out of sweetens cove distillery who in the past made a splash with their sourced bourbon (presumably from dickle) this new addition sought to bring together the unique qualities of Tennessee and Kentucky Bourbons into one. Now it's mashbill, age statement, sourcing? All not available that I could find, leaving us with only its 110.7 proof. Alot of noise has been made out of this bourbon as both Peyton Manning and Andy Roddick have put their names on the project, but dose it live up to the hype?

On the nose it is shockingly soft, taking a few good sniffs to really get anything, grain and a bit cinnamon with light notes of oak and a bit of citrus zest with lots of swirling to bring it out. On the tongue it had a good body, a little oily on the tongue but a dryer taste, with oak, rye spice, and clove dominating while a soft touch of vanilla and cocoa kept it from being overly spiced, the taste maturing as a bit of to***co and leather join in, the dryness and spice easing up as you approach the finish, medium and sweet, the maple that is proudly talked about makes its appearance along with caramel to overcome the dryness at the start, leaving a pleasant sweet after taste with a bit of clove and pepper to warm the tongue and chest. While it is a enjoyable sip if you like your bourbon dryer with a bit of a kick, the duality of the dry and light spice up front and sweetness at the end is a little disorienting, and while good (esp at its proof and price point) it doesn't feel like it lives up to the hype it has received at some of the competitions.

Happy sunny Saturday! (though is it really a happy Saturday without the Dawgs?) It feels great out, perfect picnic weather, and your friends here at In& Out Beverage Kennesaw have the adult beverages you want for your picnics! So come on by and see your friends!

And speaking of adult beverages we have another review for you today with...
Pure Kentucky Bourbon-
Another curious offering from Willett, this 107 proof bottle has the lack of age statement and mashbill of other bottom shelf Willett offerings. On the nose this is a bit more bold, with oak, some cinnamon spice, swirling it slowly there is a good hint of honey and caramel. Full bodied and oily, it sips with cinnamon, dry oak, toffee, a bit of clove, and cracked pepper, sipping further it brings in some vanilla, and a hint of clove, leading to a lingering long finish with vanilla and cinnamon, while notes of pepper and rye spice mix in. Overall its much better then Kentucky Legacy and can make a decent cheaper sipper if your wanting something with a bit of kick on a budget. This should have been paired yesterday, but we goofed and got who the distillery is mixed up and thats the story we are sticking with!

Kentucky Vintage Bourbon-
This 90 proof offering from Willett distilling, has no age statement or mashbill (witch has led to questions about if it is sourced, since its taste profile is unlike most willett bourbons). With no more preamble lets get to it! On the nose it’s pretty noticeable alcohol at first, with only a bit of oak, giving it a few swirls trying to tease out something beyond, a bit of caramel and corn syrup joins in and a tease of sawdust. On the tongue it’s a bit medium bodied there is a fair bit of that alcohol from the nose in the taste, a bit of saw dust creeps in along with a light touch of pepper and cinnamon. This leads to the medium finish that packs a good bit of heat with rye and clove mixed in. Sadly this one just dose not live up to the excellence we tend to expect from its distillery (and only has fueled those questions about it being sourced) For a cheap bottom shelf it can give you some good kick, but that's about the best I can say for it.
