Our Story
Started it 1889, Flynn’s Store was your typical out port Newfoundland store catering to the needs of the people at the time supplying the town of Avondale and surrounding communities with flour, coal, kerosene, fish salt and typical canned goods. It was a place for people to gather, share some news or warm themselves by the stove. In the 130 years since things haven't changed much we are still that Family owned store catering to the needs of our customers, grant you we don’t sell flour by the stone anymore but we do still have flour in 2 kilogram bags along with a number of other household essentials. but we are still a place where people can gather and share the news, and yes the stove has been replaced with a heat pump but you can still warm yourselves on a cold winters day. With the added bonus of cooling yourself down on a hot summer day.
As for the secret to our success, there is no real secret actually. Like any successful business its takes good people to keep it growing and over the years we have had a number of dedicated employees that have helped ensure that each customer is served with kindness and respect whether it is their first visit or their hundredth visit to our store. It also takes a dedication and a willingness to adjust with the times to ensure that we have want our customers want, and if there is a item missing from our shelves that a customer requests we’ll do our best to bring it in and keep it in stock. We know most of our customers by name and we celebrate their successes and mourn their loses, we are a dedicated member of the community always willing to help however we can. it’s this personal touch that has allowed to stay around for 130 years and hopefully help us stay around for 130 more.
