Ever hear of this party trick? You might've seen this on Moonshiners, or maybe your uncle showed you this trick at a family holiday party!

Supposedly, the trick goes that you can tell the proof of a bourbon by shaking the bottle and looking at the bubbles! If it's under a 100 proof, the bubbles with dissipate quickly! If it's above a 100 proof, the bubbles are suppose to remain longer!

We tested it out with Elijah Craig Toasted barrel, and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.

In 1964, Congress passed a resolution naming bourbon America’s native spirit. This congressional act meant that bourbon could only be made in the U.S. — thereby protecting American distillers from foreign competition trying to horn in. The side benefit was that it gave bourbon a stamp of legitimacy. Maybe the best part is that the clerk assigned to handle the legislation was named August Bourbon!
