To properly appreciate any writing, any form of literature, be it Shakespeare or the gospels or simply liquor store doggerel, you must understand to whom the writing was directed, who was/is the intended audience. In 2020, in the city where my sign stands, Hialeah, 94% of the population identified as Hispanic, making it the second-highest Hispanic proportion city in the contiguous United States. Additionally, 84.1% of the population is Cuban or Cuban-American. In the 2024 Presidential Election, Donald Trump received 76% of the vote in Hialeah.
The intended purpose of my poetry is three-fold; to entertain, to educate and to aggravate. Each poem must accomplish at least 2 of these 3 three goals. The immediate goal with this poem is to introduce the acronym TACO, Trump Always Chickens Out, to my Magat viewers. They may soon see "Let's Go Taco" flags flying, so I want them to have some inkling. If I had posted "Let's Go Taco", or "Vamos Taco", this would have been an even larger translation gap to cross. Perhaps they might just question, actually use their own minds to wonder why I am calling him Trump Taco. I'm not claiming to really accomplish this with this poem, but we can't, I can't, just remain silent.
Thanks to all my friends who suggested rhymes for Taco. It isn't easy to rhyme Taco in English, so I went with Spanish. Special thanks to Michael M for providing the most repugnant rhyme for Taco, and to Ferny C for translation support.
And just so you know, cause this isn't covered in public school Spanish class; " Berraco is Cuban slang for castrated pig which can't breed and tastes like s**t. In other words, useless." It could also mean wild boar. If you've ever had the displeasure of meeting a wild boar, well, sometimes you can smell them coming before you hear or see them.
Let's go Taco!
