New insurance regulations as of today

12/06/2016

Just an FYI. Our underwriter has now mandated that all fueling must be done outside of building in a designated fueling area atleast 30 feet from any building. Whatever it takes to make a fueling area so that all fuel is outside. No fueling inside building or any open flames whatsoever within 30 feet of any building. Thank you.

Indoor Kart Racing!
24TH ANNUAL N. Y. S. INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
New York State Fairgrounds • Syracuse, NY
Saturday, December 3, 2016
Gates open 11 AM, Racing 11 to 5 PM (race times approximate)
sponsored by F X Caprara
"The most intense oval racing imaginable" is how drivers describe indoor kart racing. Saturday, December 3, 2016 brings the 24th Annual N. Y. S. Indoor Championship to the New York State Fairground's Center of Progress Building.

Race promotor Richard Murtaugh says "Imagine taking ordinary racing and squeezing it down to a track that's just 100 feet in diameter. Like making maple syrup, the more you condense it down, the more intense it is, and that's how indoor racing works. You get fierce wheel-to-wheel action in 6 second laps. With 12 karts on the track, just to watch it is a challenge. The karts pull 1.4 lateral G's in the corners, and because the track is inside a building, it's all turns. There are no straights on which the drivers can momentarily relax. From green to checkered it's full throttle, with occasional taps on the brakes to stay off the guy in front of you. It's the most challenging racing in karts."

Gates open to the public at 11 AM, racing starts at 11 AM and runs to late afternoon. Come on out to watch the action, and bring the kids. This is very much a family affair.

The previous race, last December, drew well over 100 entries in 18 classes. Between the heats, consolation races, and A and B main events, there are approximately 70 races packed into six hours of non-stop action. Unlike other forms of racing you may have seen, there are no long delays between races. One group exits the track, and the next comes on. The noise never dies down, and the action on the track never stops.

The secret to indoor racing is in the track. It's a heated rubber track, with a grip so strong you can't walk across it unless your shoes are tied extra-tight. Sticky sticky sticky. The secret to the track is a smooth concrete surface. Surprisingly, the smoother the concrete, the better. Infrared heaters shine down on the concrete, heating it to 120 degrees or so. Then a layer of adhesive goes down. The adhesive of choice is Coke syrup, straight from the fountain! Then karts with extra-soft rubber tires go out and zip around the track. After half an hour or so, there is a thick layer of rubber adhered to the top of the Coke syrup. Voila, an indoor kart track.

Throw in some grandstands, pits, and a crowd of a thousand or so people, and you've got yourself an indoor kart race!

Spectator General Admission/Pit Pass $15 (under 12 $10, under 5 free)
Public Welcome • Family Oriented
Drivers and Pit Crew, please click on Drivers/Crew at left

➽ The karts raced in this event are owned by the competitors. There are no rental karts available on the day of the event. Karts typically must conform to AKRA/World Karting Association regulations plus additional regulations specific to this event (see the Tech section on this website and the Entry Form for details).

For the New York Unilli Series to go off the way Ron, Bill and myself are intending it to, we came to the conclusion we needed to reach out for some outside help due to the overwhelming response we are having so far. We have put in place people with experience and NO ties to the track such as Ken Chubb (racing promoter). His roll will be first and foremost track prep, taking care of the drivers meeting, and then he will be in the flag stand Co-Directing the race event. Also in the flag stand will be the legendary Ricky Breed, with over 20 years of racing experience under his belt. On the mike will be the 95X superstar "MartyTheOneManParty". Head Tech inspector for the clones will be Jim Brown and for the flatheads Rich Gamrod. Co Tech inspectors will be Aaron Whiteman and Tom Brown. Head EMT is as always Merle LeFevre and the official track photographer is Don Edds. We will be releasing details on our huge Kevin Ward Memorial Race in the coming days.

I like to take the opportunity to come on and make a few comments in regards to this up coming season in the Northeast region. First of all I want to thank Rich for his willingness and desire to promote and help grow our great sport of karting in the Northeast. His passion and concerns for the racer is second to none. We have been working on this deal since Daytona and it is our full intentions to bring a new and exciting series to the area. As Rich mentioned in an earlier post our primary Sponsor has been and is still dealing with some very serious health issues, but he is fully committed to this effort and wants to see the program grow with great awards and a huge Year end Banquet.
Rich and I have had to shift gears a little in the past few weeks as we try to work past the distractions. I feel confident that we will get things worked out and put a program in place that all will be excited to be a part of. Again I want to thank Rich for all his hard work and his desire to bring something new to the area that will save the racer money, but also be very rewarding and a whole lot of fun as well. Please continue to share your thoughts with Rich. I as well would love to make myself available to each of you also. Shoot me a pm or email at any time with your thoughts or concerns or give me a call at (704)764-8138. Rich is working hard for you guys and these current issues are not of his making so please give him your help.

Enjoy Karting,

Bill McCutcheon
