Nectar 🍯

The honey shown on this frame is either covered in wax (the arrow point up), or very shiny and will soon be covered in wax. Only once it is capped or almost capped, it is considered honey. If nectar is extracted before it is dehydrated enough it can ferment and make mead. Not always a bad thing 😉

I get A LOT of calls asking for honey in the spring. Everyone wants honey to help with their allergies. I personally think buying pollen from your local beekeeper is a great spring allergy treatment.

The bees have to bring in enough nectar, have extra after feeding brood and themselves, then dehydrate any extra to 17% humidity. All of that happens in the lovely up and down temperature of Michigan spring 🤣 I promise the honey is coming.

Right now the most important thing the bees can do is make more baby bees. All of the bees that were in the colony (besides the queen) have died. We will get our honey in due time.
