Whiskey Wednesday: While exploring the deep dark recesses of the vast deep dark caverness of "in the back" we stumbled over a fantastic find: BackBone Bourbon Anniversary Edition "Decade Down"! Backbone Decade Down is a straight bourbon built from a combination of Backbone's finest “honey” barrels between 5 and 7 years old. 25% of the bourbon used had been in sherry barrels for 12 months. The first batch of Backbone Uncut was released in December 2010 thus the reason for this special anniversary edition, released in 2020...a Decade Down from that first release!
Distilled in Indiana from a mashbill of 74% corn, 21% rye, and 5% malted barley, the nose has notes of toasted bread, almond butter, honey-roasted peanuts, and caramel topping. The palate is creamy and sweet, with rich oak, well-integrated spice, and peanuts—densely packed flavors that compose a full and rich body. The finish boasts admirable length, with savory nuts and semi-sweet chocolate. This will be a great addition to any bourbon aficionado's
collection!

The nose is fine and elegant. Long aromas of white-fleshed fruit, citrus fruit and white flowers. The palate is straightforward and clean: fine and silky, a touch of salinity on the finish.

Wacky Weather Wednesday!
It feels practically autumnal today, and it almost felt wintery last nigh...it was in the 50's range. Now if you have taken notice of your surroundings, the leaves on some of the trees have already started to change. They've said "fair thee well summer". With mother nature sending us such mixed messages, is it fall, is it summer, fall, summer, summer fall...I've found the perfect drink to help you "embrace" the wacky weather on a Wednesday: The Fall Margarita😛. Margaritas are typically associated with summer and/or more tropical weather, but this one also has all the flavors of fall thrown in, so it can almost be "October in August", just like if feels today....

Fall Margarita:

Ingredients:

2 oz. tequila (reposado or blanco)
1 oz. orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or triple sec)
1 oz. fresh lime juice
2 oz. apple cider
1/2 oz. maple syrup (optional for added sweetness)
Ground cinnamon and sugar for ri***ng the glass
Cinnamon stick and apple slice for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
Rim the Glass: Mix ground cinnamon and sugar on a plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a glass, then dip it into the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Mix the Drink: In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, apple cider, and maple syrup (if using). Fill the shaker with ice and shake well.

Serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with ice.

Garnish: Add a cinnamon stick and an apple slice for garnish if desired.
This margarita has the classic tartness of a traditional margarita but with the sweet, spiced flavors of fall. Enjoy!

90+ Orange Vino Blanco
This Vino Bianco is a skin-fermented blend of Malvasia (30%) and Trebbiano (70%). It is a white grape fermentation but with red winemaking technique. The skins release into the wine the color and aromas, progressively reaching a bright orange color. The maturation is in steel on the lees for 3 months. This is a natural wine that does not have any type of filtration but only a simple decantation before bottling. With a slight orange tint, this wine hits the palate with a silky texture and exotic tropical fruit flavors.

90+ Languedoc French Fusion
This medium-bodied red blend is made from Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre grown on vineyards in the foothills of the Cevennes. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for 6 to 8 months before it is bottled. Aromas of rich black cherry and blackberry fruit, black pepper, and roasted coffee. Hints of dried herbs along with strawberries, and raspberries linger on the finish.

90+ Lambrusco
This wine is deep purple-red in color with aromas of fresh strawberries and violets. Take a sip and a light touch of effervescence accompanied by flavors of plum and wild berries emerge. This refreshing, versatile wine pairs fantastically with the lightest of appetizers or the heartiest cured meats and aged cheeses.

Thirsty Thursday: Jameson Orange Irish Whiskey!
Looking for something "outside" my unusual box to try, and remembering a recommendation made, over a year ago, by my good buddy, John Henson, I took home a bottle of Jameson Orange Irish Whiskey...I'm really sorry I waited so long! Fresh, fruity, fragrant orange peel aroma. You know that smell, when you first pierce the skin of an orange, that's what this whiskey taste like...Zesty peel and juicy orange fruit followed by a soft vanilla whiskey...perfect combination for sipping by itself or mixing. Best tasting orange spirit I've tasted. Dump the orange flavored vodka in your drinks, and use this instead....much better orange flavor.Soon the weather will be cooler, and this would the the perfect whiskey in a Hot Toddy! Make your next Old Fashioned using Jameson Oragnge..it will make, to quote John Henson, "the best old fashioned" he ever tasted. Hats off to you John, sorry it's taken me so long to try this one....

Something Special for Sunday: We all know that wine comes in either red, white, or rose. This is correct. But did you know that wine also comes in ORANGE!! No, the wine is not made from oranges....and if you have the time, when next you see me in the store, I could tell you all about why making wine from oranges is not a "good thing", but that's for another day😝 So, since it is not made from oranges, just exactly what makes this, hereto forth hardly ever heard of orange wine, orange, you ask. I have the answer for you, and some wonderfully tasty orange wine , too! Orange wine, is a type of wine made from white wine grapes where the grape skins are not removed but stay in contact with the juice for days or even months, as is more typical with red wines. This contrasts with conventional white wine production, which involves crushing the grapes, of any color, and quickly moving the juice off the skins into the fermentation vessel. So now you know a thing! We have a New and Fabulous orange wine, from our Friends at 90+, that we just fell in orange wine lust with.......yes it is that good! It's Saturday, and it's going to be another steamy one! So once all those chores are done, you're going to want a nice cool drink to sit back, and relax with. How about a Long Island Iced Tea...STOP, PUT ON THE BRAKES!!! that's just so very last century! Granted, it was a big deal back in the 20th Century, but this is the 21st Century, it's time for Long Island Iced COFFEE!!! ...after all Coffee rules, tea drools😂

Long Island Iced Coffee;
Ingredients:
1 oz Baileys Irish Cream
1 oz Kahlúa
1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz vodka
4 oz cold brew coffee
1 oz whipping cream
Ice
Whipped cream and coffee beans for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
Prepare the Glass:
Fill a highball glass or large rocks glass with ice.
Mix the Drink:
In a cocktail shaker, combine Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlúa, tequila, vodka, and cold brew coffee.
Add ice to the shaker and shake well until chilled.
Serve:
Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over ice.
Pour the whipping cream over the top and gently stir to combine.
Garnish:
Garnish with whipped cream and coffee beans if desired.
Enjoy:

Sip and enjoy the rich and creamy flavors of this Long Island Iced Coffee!

Argyle Vintage Sparkling Brut:
This delightful méthode traditionnelle wine is a blend of 52% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier. Aromas of strawberries and a rhubarb. Soft acidity and mild tannins support flavors of peaches, honeycomb and brioche.

Gai'a Monograph Moschofilero:
This lively, dry white wine has an intensely floral and fruity nose, with hints of rose petal and spice. A refreshing wine, with a crisp acidity and flavorful finish. Playing off its characteristically floral bouquet, this wine is a great pairing for seafood, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine, or paired with fresh fruit or fruit-based desserts.

Argyle Pinot Noir:
The Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir highlights the elegance and complexity of the Willamette Valley AVA, showcasing the purity of fruit and lively texture the region has to offer. Delicate fermentation and gentle pressing enhanced this wine’s silky mouthfeel. The wine showcases both dark and red cherry flavors, as well as black tea and spice accents. On the palate, fresh, vibrant acidity and polished tannins frame the flavors, while adding precise and persistent length.

Costera Duemilaventuno Cannonau:
Ruby-red in color, aromas of ripe black cherries and tree fruits complement undertones of pepper and licorice. On the palate, a full body and velvety tannins make for excellent texture and age worthiness.

La Cuadrilla Red Blend:
Directed by and benefiting the estate's farm crews each vintage, this blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Sangiovese offers aromas of blackberry sorbet, scarlet red roses and woodspice on the nose. The palate is focused on a core of jammy berries that are balanced by chalky tannins and an acidic bite.

Thirsty Thursday: Catoctin Creek Rabble Rouser Rye Whisky Bonded-in-Bond

Bonded-in-Bond, 100 proof (50% ABV); distilled and bottled in Purcellville, VA; mash bill of 100% rye; aged four years.
This whisky pours a warm butterscotch, tinged with red, and forms thin, straight tears. Fragrances of orange blossom and fresh cut grass mingle with cereal sweetness and a sheets-on-the-line crispness. Robust and warm on the palate with a silky mouthfeel. Toasted nuts and candied orange peel float on a river of caramel, studded with grains of paradise. The finish of apricot and clove is long.

Have you noticed just how "warm" it's been this summer? you have! Too "warm" to do almost anything, and really too "warm" to want to stand in a hot kitchen and cook. What's a person to do? Now since it is summer, there are also tomatoes, fresh, juicy , and delicious. How would it be if you could have an almost no cook spaghetti dinner, on the table in less than 15 minutes...with a little advance prep? Below is the amazing, no cook, fresh tomato, pasta sauce I love making during the summer. Now because this is a tomato sauce, it just screams for a nice red wine...but it's summer and it's "warm" so you need just the right red for this ....I made this last week, and enjoyed it with Angelina Pinot Noir ..it's a nice "lighter" pinot, that goes perfectly with the no cook sauce. The secdret to getting this on the table in about 15minuets, is the advanced prep, and using angel hair pasta. Angel Hair pasta only takes 3 minutes to cook...your house won't even get hot. The pasta sauce is prepared well ahead of time. See the recipe below: The recipe is a "family size" one, keep in mind that this can be scaled down to make smaller amounts...I generally use just a pint of cherry/grape tomatoes and play the rest by ear.....

Ina Garten's Summer Pasta Sauce
4 pints cherry tomatoes, halved
Good olive oil
2 tablespoons minced garlic (6 cloves)
18 large basil leaves, julienned, plus extra for serving
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pound dried angel hair pasta
1½ cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving

Combine the cherry tomatoes, ½ cup olive oil, garlic, basil leaves, red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon salt, and the pepper in a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, and set aside at room temperature for at least 4 hours. Make it before work, and you'll only have to fix the pasts

Just before you’re ready to serve, bring a large pot of water with a splash of olive oil and 2 tablespoons salt to a boil and add the pasta. Cook al dente according to the directions on the package (be careful – it only takes 2 to 3 minutes!). Drain the pasta well and add to the bowl with the cherry tomatoes. Add the cheese and some extra fresh basil leaves and toss well. Serve in big bowls with extra cheese on each serving.

Tequila Tuesday and Tacos:
Don't like drinking alone, well you'll never have to again if you have Dona Celia Tequila in the house. Hand crafted tequila, in hand made bottles. And since a special lady deserves a special meal, how about some Carne Asada Mexican Street Tacos to make her feel right at home..

Carne Asada Mexican Street Tacos
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
2 tablespoons canola oil, divided
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 ½ pounds skirt steak, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
12 mini flour tortillas, warmed
¾ cup diced red onion
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, lime juice, 1 tablespoon canola oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin and oregano.
In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine soy sauce mixture and steak; marinate for at least 1 hour up to 4 hours, turning the bag occasionally.
Heat remaining 1 tablespoon canola oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add steak and marinade, and cook, stirring often, until steak has browned and marinade has reduced, about 5-6 minutes, or until desired doneness.
Serve steak in tortillas, topped with onion, cilantro and lime.

This question has been asked at least twice a day since Monday, and was asked of me five times today, so I thought I would just answer it, and the follow up questions right here, so it puts those inquiring minds at ease:
No, we do not have any Crown Royal Blackberry, at this time.
No, we do not know when we will get any more. Why don't we know, because we are not notified when it is going to come in, it just shows up.
No, we don't know how much we will get.

Here is what we do know: CR Blackberry is a limited release edition, made in small quantities.
When/if we get another shipment, that information will be posted on this page, so all inquiring minds get the glorious news at the same time.
Once we get it, purchases will be limited to one per customer...to give as many as possible a chance to get a bottle.
