The Chickasaw Nation’s commitment to build a strong and sustainable economic foundation to support vital programs and services began with the purchase of a small travel lodge in Sulphur in 1972. Today, 52 years ago, the Chickasaw Motor Inn opened for business.

The 72-unit inn, located on the site where our Artesian Hotel now sits, was the tribe’s first commercial business and the beginning of a new era of progress. Building on its success, we have since grown to operate more than 100 diverse businesses.

Opening the Chickasaw Motor Inn was an important step in the tribe’s ability to achieve increased self-sufficiency and greater self-determination, setting us on a path to better serve Chickasaws and First Americans and benefit all Oklahomans.

~Happy Labor Day Weekend ~

As we celebrate the fruits of our labor, we thought we would give y'all an update on "The Palace Store" aka FGS and what might become of her and all her Glory. With her rich history and beauty, she will soon take a new path onto her next chapter. We are often reminded of one word, resilience. She will always overcome the odds. You cannot break her, destroy her, or silence her. Her purpose will continue on.

Amazing facts about "The Palace Store".
1. For the last 20+ yrs the business owner/operators have been female.
2. The building is the oldest and longest running tax paying establishment in the town of Byars.
3. The building is listed as a historical landmark.

There's a lot of love in this old building. A lot of wonderful memories, not just from our family but from generations of families. We welcome the new opportunity that comes with change. We pray for the new owners, may they be successful, blessed, welcomed and protected.

We've had a huge uptick in interest in the store recently thanks to the marketing campaigns led by our Capital Investment teams. There are several local business owners and/or companies looking at FGS as their new home. Byars may have a new Store/Cafe, Mexican Restaurant, ATV Dealership, Air BNB, Education Center or Hub Station.

We know there is a high demand for food, grocery & beer due to our location being next to, two ATV parks, and the lakes close by. We have also expressed our concern for the local communities living 15-20 miles to the nearest town, for food and grocery to the interested parties.

We hope jobs and resources will be coming to town in time for the holidays. We will continue to keep Byars and the surrounding communities in our prayers. 🙏🙏🙏
