When you call the racetrack on Saturday morning and they tell you the pits are a little soggy, but the track is going to roll in real nice.

Wow, another great donation to the Huset’s Hall of Fame!!!

These are from the collection of Herm Nelson of Centerville who raced at Huset’s in the EARLY days. Items like these and ANYTHING to do with ALL kinds of racing from days gone by are PRICELESS and will eventually have a home.

It does not have to be just Huset’s stuff either. Big plans are in the works. If you are looking for a home for your pictures or ANY type of memorabilia, please let us know. More pictures of donated items coming soon!!!

The Huset’s Hall of Fame just received a priceless donation from the Gene Gunther family. It’s a photo album that features Tilman and Mil Huset. These are just a few photos from the book that we wanted to share. Thank you Gunther family from the Huset’s Hall of Fame committee and all fans of the history of our speedway. ❤️

Hello everyone, the Huset’s Hall of Fame committee has been receiving donations from people, ranging from fire suits, shirts, every “Open Wheel” magazine ever published and more. Does anyone have any suggestions for a small storage unit in Sioux Falls? Any racing fans who have a facility that we could support? If you have an idea, please send me a PM or go to our website and message us at husetshalloffame.com

Thank you in advance!!!

Rod

Our committee could not do this without the corporate support of businesses and friends of the Hall of Fame. If you, or someone you know is interested in becoming a partner or friend of the Hall of Fame, we are a 501c3 charitable organization and we would certainly appreciate your support. Just send...

Now that things have kind of settled down a bit, I would like to take time to thank a lot of people that made the 27th annual Huset's Hall of Fame night possible and such a success.

First, thank you to Tod Quiring and Doug Johnson and their staff at Huset's Speedway for their support and help with different situations. Thanks gang!!!

Thank you to all our corporate partners and friends of the Hall of Fame for their support please click on the banner shown below and make note of those people. Please try to do business with them to show your appreciation of their support. Thanks to these generous people, we were able to host the social and let our inductees and their guests mingle and watch the races from the third floor of the turn four tower. This was a big step in the right direction for the Hall of Fame.

Thank you to my committee. We could not do this without this GREAT group of guys. You probably know most or some of them, but if you click on the picture of the committee, they are all named. I can tell you this, our meetings are extremely interesting, especially when some of the elder statesmen start sharing stories from day gone by. I could sit and listen to those stories for hours. Our committee used to meet 4 times a year, but we have been meeting once a month for about 9 months now. Exciting things are on the horizon.

Last but CERTAINLY not least, thank you to my wife, Queen Doreen for her support and encouragement. I didn't pay much attention to her during Hall of Fame week, but she understood and stood by me the whole time. Thank you Mrs. P.

We really appreciate all the kind words and we will continue to work hard to make the Huset's Hall of Fame bigger and better each year.

Sincerely,

Rod

TODAY is the big day for the Huset's Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Huset's Speedway. Tonight, the speedway will host the 27th annual Hall of Fame event.

The evening will begin with a meet and greet and social hour from 5pm-7pm on the third floor of the turn 4 suites, which is open to the public with a paid race ticket. Then, the induction ceremony will take place at intermission of the races. We hope you can join us tonight at Huset's Speedway.

Our spotlight on the Class of 2024 today shines on Gary Brown, Jr.

Gary Brown Jr.
by Tom A. Savage

Gary Brown Jr., has rewritten the record books at Huset’s over his career in a race car. The Winner, S.D., native has 75 career feature wins at Huset’s, second only to Terry McCarl with 102.

Brown also shares a record with McCarl as the two are the only drivers in history to have claimed eight track championships. Brown Jr., got his in the Late Model Street Stock class in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Of his 75 career wins at the time of his induction, 71 of them have come in the Late Model Street Stock class, also a record at the speedway. Marty Barber is second with 50.

Brown’s four other career wins at Huset’s have been in a Late Model, a class he switched to beginning in 2016. That class races a limited schedule at Huset’s, which has slowed his career wins number at the speedway. Just 27 career wins behind the top spot, Brown could have arguably caught McCarl for that elusive title since the track reopened in 2020.

But, Brown said that record has never been a driving force. Once he stopped racing the weekly Late Model Street Stock in 2015, he said he’s never looked back.

“I enjoy doing what I’m doing so much right now,” he said of racing with the Tri-State Late Model series. “I’ll never say never, but as of right now, it’s something I don’t ever think about. I didn’t even think about it when we were racing there each week. We were just out having fun.”

Brown began racing in the Bomber class at age 17 in 1993. His first race was at Lake Andes Speedway. He later raced that same season in Winner before becoming a weekly participant at Lake County Speedway in Madison, I90 Speedway in Hartford, and Huset’s.

He’s raced every year since, except for 1997 when he took a year off to save money for a new race car.

Brown has always raced his own car and has always carried the No. 22 in honor of his favorite driver growing up, World of Outlaws regular Jac Haudenschild.

Brown is one of the youngest members inducted into the Hall of Fame at 48 years of age upon his induction.

Welcome to the Huset’s Speedway Hall of Fame

By Tom Savage (Hall of Fame Founder and Hall of Fame Inductee, Class of 2008)

The first race at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon was on Sunday afternoon May 23rd, 1954. Since that original beginning a lot of people have either laid down tire marks, slung dirt over the walls, tweaked with a wrench, wiped mud off, sponsored, officiated, recorded, or sat in the grandstand. To honor and remember this extraordinary group of people the hall of fame was formed. The folks who are enshrined in the hall of fame fall into one of the above categories and each has earned the right of admission into the hallowed hall. The members are a proud group and they are quick to tell all listeners that being in the Huset’s Speedway Hall of Fame is an honor to be remembered forever.
