To treasure my stories in the miniature

Stories in making miniature of Block 21 Margaret Drive Mr Chan has fond memories of where he stayed during my childhood some 58 years ago. His stories; This is the place named Margaret Drive where my parents finally have a permanent shelter called home under their heads as they were migrants from China’s Guangdong province who had braved a long sea journey in search of a better life. Prior to that they had to move from one place to another due to circumstances and uncertainties in the 60s. Although it was a spartan 2 room rental flat where the eight of us squeezed into it with some even sleeping in the kitchen, we were contended. During that period, our neighbours will keep their doors open, look out and help one another while children will play games under our flats. These are things that I want to keep in my memory. Photos and notes are an option but they run the risk of being misplaced, loss & photo discoloration. I chanced upon Arch Singapore @ Capitol Singapore that specialize on heritage handcraft and miniature. I thought what better way to keep that memory then to custom make a replica miniature of it that can withstand the challenge of time come rain or shine. It was a challenge for the designer and craftsman from Arch, some of whom were not even born when the flat was there and even more challenging now that the flat was demolished and few photos was available during those days. It was through memory, narration and research from the library archives that they managed to build up this miniature though not completely exact in details but the outline do evoke memory of my childhood home where unforgettable memory live on. This unique gift specially customized for my family and next generation. Shall this miniature be a tribute and memory of my parents who had overcome all odds to take us to where we are and who we are today. Keeping Heritage Alive - follow to next post
