Why are Mooncakes so expensive? 🥮🥮🥮

Mooncakes are round or square cakes that are filled with a variety of fillings, including lotus seed paste, red bean paste, and nuts. These are often decorated with an imprint of the Chinese character for “longevity” or “harmony”.

There are a few reasons why mooncakes can be expensive;

First, mooncakes are often made with traditional methods and ingredients. This means that they can take longer to make, which drives up the cost. The production process for mooncakes is very labor-intensive. Each cake has to be hand-rolled and painstakingly decorated.

Second, mooncakes are often given as gifts, so they need to be high quality in order to impress the recipient. Finally, mooncakes are only available for a short time each year, which makes them more desirable and thus more expensive.

Also, Mooncakes are often made with premium ingredients like lotus seed paste and jujube filling.

+ We have also have to consider our travel expenses in getting these directly in EACH hotel/bakeshop/merchant and transport it back here in the Philippines, in a very careful manner that it won’t ruin the packaging and quality until it gets to you 🥰

All of these factors contribute to the high price tag of mooncakes. But despite their cost, mooncakes remain a popular treat during the Mid-Autumn Festival season.

Many people believe that eating a moon cake helps to promote good luck and fortune in the year ahead. If you’re looking to enjoy some delicious moon cakes this festival season, be prepared to pay a bit of a premium – but it will be worth it!
