CIDG Caraga files charges against businesswoman arrested for illegal selling of imported, counterfeit ci******es in Surigao del Sur
Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Libertad, Butuan City----- The office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 13 filed charges against a store owner in Barangay Santo Nino, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, who was arrested on April 6 (Wednesday), for illegal selling of imported and counterfeit ci******es.
A total of Php132,000.00 worth of assorted ci******es was confiscated during the buy-bust operation.
In the report received from CIDG13, cases for violation of Republic Act No. 10863, otherwise known as the "Customs Modernization and Tariff Act of 2016", Republic Act No. 10643, an Act Effectively Instill Health Consciousness Through Graphic Health Warnings of To***co Products and Republic Act No. 8293 otherwise known as the "Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines were filed at the sala of Surigao del Sur Provincial Prosecutor's Office in Bislig City on April 8 (Friday) docketed under NPS No. XIII-07a-INV-22D-00022 against Rebecca B. Libaton, 59, a resident of Purok 2, Brgy. Lacasa, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
During the buy-bust operation, 330 reams of assorted counterfeit ci******es, Php1,000.00 bill as marked money, an improvised receipt as buy-bust receipt, and two reams of Champion ci******es as buy-bust items were seized from Libaton's possession.
Libaton failed to present any documents authorizing her to sell the said products when questioned by operatives.
"This accomplishment will serve as a stern warning to all individuals who illegally sell imported and counterfeit ci******es. Such action will violate the Philippine laws, and anyone found guilty will face civil and administrative sanctions and a criminal penalty of imprisonment and fines," RD CARAMAT emphasized.
