Ross Golden Opportunities Shop is CLOSED today due to weather - Will be OPEN on Wednesday 10.00am 🤩

At 9:42am today, Mayor Helen Lash has declared a local state of emergency for the Southern ward of Westland District

The declaration comes as extensive flooding causes significant problems across the district, including evacuations, road closures and landslips in the South Westland area.

This declaration provides for Controllers to direct and coordinate personnel, material and other resources made available and provides access to extraordinary powers to deliver an effective and timely response to an emergency.

Members of the public are reminded to prepare getaway bags in preparation for potential evacuations.
If anyone is feeling unsafe, please self-evacuate to friends or family on higher ground or call 111.

Trail Closure: Due to the heavy rain forecast, there is a complete closure from Milltown to Old Christchurch Road and over the Mahinapua Boardwalks from midday today. This will be reassessed on Saturday afternoon.
Please take care out on the trail.

Freedom Camping Bylaw Submissions can be collected from the Ross Goldfields Information & Heritage Centre ✍🏼

⛺️ Responsible Freedom Camping Bylaw - Introducing the prohibited & restricted areas

Prohibited areas where no freedom camping is allowed. The Council is proposing to introduce prohibited areas in the following townships:
➡️ Kaniere
➡️ Ruatapu
➡️ Ross
➡️ Harihari
➡️ Okarito
➡️ Fox Glacier
➡️ Bruce Bay
➡️ Hannahs Clearing
➡️ Okuru, Neils Beach
➡️ Jackson Bay.

Restricted areas where freedom camping is allowed for certified self-contained vehicles, including time restrictions and maximum number of nights. The Council is proposing to introduce restricted areas in the townships of:
➡️ Kumara
➡️ Hokitika
➡️ Rimu/Woodstock
➡️ Kakapotahi
➡️ Franz Josef
➡️ Paringa
➡️ Haast.
