Great news from Billy-le-Grand! Champagne Bonnevie-Bocart has won gold medal 🥇from the independent winemakers association in France!

The medal has been awarded to their champagne "Prestige" cuvée.

Curious to know what it tastes like? yum yum yum! This is definitely liquid & bubbly gold.

I'm sure you can't wait to try it either! If you are in The Netherlands, you can find it from Grape Minds.
As long as supply lasts!!

Researchers from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, University of São Paulo and University of California/ San Francisco have discovered this interesting fact.

Another research by Marcia Pelchat (PhD at Monell chemical sciences center in Philadelphia) found that “women tend to taste, smell, hear, see colora and feel textures more accurately than men”
•
Read the above, and more interesting facts about how women tend to have (more than) twice the chance to be supertasters than men, at the Wine Speed blog post by Karen MacNeil.

It seems that women increase sensitivity to a smell with repeated exposure. All this happens by nature... and particularly at child bearing age!

I tend to recognise mercaptans, rain, and tropical aromas from a distance... however, my nostrils are mostly ‘broken’ when it comes to recognise “wet stone”, “mushroom”, or the particular flower I’m smelling.

I must admit that I wasn’t a big fan of rosé wines until a couple of years ago. 🤷🏻‍♀️. I would be more inclined to stick to either whites or reds. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was obvious a matter of time... I’ve been discovering great wines and interesting ways to pair them and I’ve become curiouser and curiouser about them.

Watch how the oak barrels are cleansed with a high pressure water rod at Champagne Bonnevie-Bocart !

This is both hypnotising as it is a stress reliever. I could meditate with a glass of champagne while watching this video over and over again.

And it is just a little over a month for the beginning of the spring.

I can almost smell it. Days are finally getting longer and the need to be sitting out there under a blue sky, and holding a glass of white wine are just a few weeks away!

Let me talk to you about one of my favourite whites. This is Sauvignon Blanc from .

These are two samples of Wairau Reserve.

It was love at first sip when I tried the 2012 vintage back in 2014. It was actually the middle of the autumn in Australia, where I was living at that time. By 2016 (and after tasting each vintage since 2012) I managed to visit their winery in Marlborough, NZ and got to try more of their fantastic wines.
Scents of passion fruit, typical of the region, but above all... the craftsmanship of a family tradition, have made this my overall favourite Sauv. Blanc.

2016 very mineral, lightly herbal, with a medium -low acidity. Calling for salty oysters 🦪.
2017 brought those fruity memories back. The tropical aromas playing with the sea-breeze. Bring it on with those fresh mussels 🦪!!

I love to be able to taste them one next to the other. It is an amazing experience.

When I think back on last Saturday... I can only smile. My soul is dancing pirouettes on the joy received from such an amazing group of people 💃🏻🤗.

My biggest reward is their happy faces and their appreciation of the wines 🥂🍷 and bites I selected for them. 🍇📝
The wine and poetry experience elevated the tasting to a lovely level.

This Cabernet Sauvignon “El Silenci del Moli” (the silence of the windmill) is an elegant, yet powerful showcase of the region Costers del Segre, in Catalunya. Raimat takes serious care of the environment by practicing sustainable agriculture in their vineyards.

👃🏻black cherries, blackberries, mint, vanilla and chocolate
👅ripe red fruits, earthy; medium-high acidity and tannins in a great balance to cut through red meats. Long lingering finish. Left us wanting to get to know more about this winery!!

Love, like wine, comes in all shapes, colours and age. ❤️🍷

We enjoyed this Argentinian Malbec from on a lovely summer time dinner on the seaside.
🍷🌊
A very juicy Malbec with a right acidity balance. It portrays a bouquet mix of red fruits jam with a delicate hint of vanilla. A lingering “sweet” finish; like a perfect love story.
