What happens when some of the best single malt makers in Germany create their own indie bottler? Malts of Germany - we now have their Batch 2 bottlings of and 9️⃣ ⛲ 🐦‍⬛

Nine Springs = 6 years old, aged in American and German Spessart oak, combining heady vanilla with dark chocolate 🍫

Thousand Mountains = 5 years old, layers of red wine, ex-bourbon, and PX casks on top of a slightly lighter single malt 🍷

Whisky Breton - single malts and more from a distillery we've long admired, . Now available in the Netherlands via EuroWhisky 👍🥃

Naguelann has a light style, but adds extra layers of flavour with careful cask choices - think Irish whiskey lightness, with a sophisticated French palette 🇫🇷

🔀 Mesk Kelt - a mix of everything the distillery does, as 'mesk' means blend in Breton - includes un/peated malt, unmalted barley, and buckwheat. How Breton!

🍷 Ruz! - A single malt purely matured in St Émilion Grand Cru casks (that's Bordeaux red wine). Still light, but it dances on the tongue!

We explored some fun and rare cask finishes - really enjoyed trying the Abafado from Beek for the first time, getting to meet whisky fans from Eindhoven, and showing off some great European drams 👍

Improving the Whisky World for Women: Why is the Whisky Bible still a thing? 📖 🥃

Improving the world we live and work in, for women and everyone who isn't a straight, white, older man - we need to do this daily, not just on 8th March!

For the whisky niche that we work in, that means removing obstacles for women (and indeed, NB and GNC people) who are working as distillers, marketers, presenters... It means actively challenging stigma, stereotypes, and properly highlighting successes 👍

On the last International Women's Day, I mentioned that I had some thoughts about the Whisky Bible. Now, I edited the draft from last year and put it up on the EuroWhisky blog...

While I'm sure this won't have much effect on Murray or his book directly, I hope it will make some whisky fans reconsider respecting Murray's scores and opinions (particularly in continental Europe). There are plenty of reasons to do so - supporting women against sexism in the whisky is just one of them

And to be positive, let's replace this kind of thing with better writing, better reviews, and a better kind of whisky personality!

Ever tried a wine-cask aged whisky... and wanted to try the wine too? That's what we're doing at Richards Bar on Thursday 27th March! 🗓️

4 single malts aged in wine casks, drawn from fantastic distilleries in Finland 🇫🇮, Brittany 🇫🇷, Denmark 🇩🇰, and Czechia 🇨🇿

You can try the same wine alongside the respective whisky, and the wines are just as fascinating:
- Moldovan sweet red, Kagor 🇲🇩
- St Emilion Grand Cru 🇫🇷
- Oloroso sherry 🇪🇸
- Tawny port 🇵🇹

All that for €30 - I don't think EuroWhisky has ever offered so much to try in one event! 😳

Like Fary Lochan, this is one of the longest established whisky distilleries in continental Europe 🌍

We stock 4 of their whiskies, all single malts. The peaty SAVU, rich KULO, the light KASKI and the smooth 10 YEARS 👀

FARY LOCHAN - DANISH SINGLE MALT 🇩🇰🥃🍂🌾

We're heading to Denmark for the Messe in Kolding soon - so what better time to look at our Danish import, Fary Lochan !

One of the oldest distillers in the country, it constitutes part of an (unofficial) Danish whisky triumvirate leading the boom in whisky making there, alongside Stauning and Thy 💪

As you can see, we love taking FL bottles to tastings - we've shown them off in multiple countries, and even in the Maastricht caves!

We currently sell their SÆSON 1, their first ever core range dram - a 47% ABV single malt with fresh, balanced sweetness and grain aromas. The Peaty Perfection is a single cask, Islay cask expression that always goes down a treat 😉

One of the best things about European whiskies - all kinds of local whisky/food pairings, with way more options than just Scottish / Irish classics! 👍

This German single malt comes from the Black Forest - double distilled, and aged in a unique mix of German, French, and US oak 🪵

There's cask strength Kraftwerk, port finished Feinwerk, and a classic Stockwerk, all presented in bottles which are like art pieces in their own right

First time seeing the new SWE tour and the Distillers' Fair with 🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Tried the Ambir with one of its own distillers (and a podcast guest for us)
- Loved the caramel nose on this dram!

Sherry cask - still really good malt, robust kind of Lowland style

First ever taste of , recommended by - very impressed!

No bottle shot, but 15 Tawny Port was beautiful, thanks !

Never seen a Sauternes before but what a treat 😋 and speaking of wine casks, I got to try a Tokaji Cask which I first heard about years ago. Hence why this was probably one of the last bottles around...

Finally rung in the new year with Scapa-loving friends who found this mystery malt, genuinely unsure if this was a HP or Scala but either way, a very dry and maritime Orkney whisky 👀

MORE IMPORTS: AUSTRIAN & FINNISH 🇦🇹🇫🇮

Just in time before we shut up shop for the holidays!
We got a few more imports :
- A rich 55% heritage rye whisky from , the organic Schlägler Roggen 2017 🌾
- The younger/lighter sherry cask cousin of Teerenpeli's Kulo, the KASKI 🍷

- PS. We bought more Kulo, as it nearly sold out 😉

- And last but not least, we have 10 Year Old, now our oldest whisky! A sophisticated single malt with a complex finish 📆

⏰ Over 18s can check out the EuroWhisky shop to get a hand on these, but if you want them mailed for Xmas, order before the 18th!

Pickup at WhiskyLab may still be available after that, if Santa says you've been good 😉

Something unique in Estonia - I talked to Moe Distillery last year, makers of the first whisky in the country. Now, they're having a special auction to celebrate 5 years since their first whisky was bottled...

Tamm & Rukis is a 100% Estonian rye whisky, and you can find out more about it on their auction site below:
