Onze winter proeverijen voor aanstaand weekend zitten zo goed als vol, dus hebben we maar meteen een nieuw event op de planning gezet! Op zaterdag 8 maart organiseren we samen met Harry van EuroWhisky een Curious Casks tasting! Zes whisky’s gerijpt op vreemde vaten! Denk aan een Mezcal finish, of een whisky gerijpt op Kagor wijnvaten! Smaken die je wellicht nog nooit geproefd hebt!

First time seeing the new SWE tour and the Distillers' Fair with 🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Tried the Ambir with one of its own distillers (and a podcast guest for us)
- Loved the caramel nose on this dram!

Sherry cask - still really good malt, robust kind of Lowland style

First ever taste of , recommended by - very impressed!

No bottle shot, but 15 Tawny Port was beautiful, thanks !

Never seen a Sauternes before but what a treat 😋 and speaking of wine casks, I got to try a Tokaji Cask which I first heard about years ago. Hence why this was probably one of the last bottles around...

Finally rung in the new year with Scapa-loving friends who found this mystery malt, genuinely unsure if this was a HP or Scala but either way, a very dry and maritime Orkney whisky 👀

MORE IMPORTS: AUSTRIAN & FINNISH 🇦🇹🇫🇮

Just in time before we shut up shop for the holidays!
We got a few more imports :
- A rich 55% heritage rye whisky from , the organic Schlägler Roggen 2017 🌾
- The younger/lighter sherry cask cousin of Teerenpeli's Kulo, the KASKI 🍷

- PS. We bought more Kulo, as it nearly sold out 😉

- And last but not least, we have 10 Year Old, now our oldest whisky! A sophisticated single malt with a complex finish 📆

⏰ Over 18s can check out the EuroWhisky shop to get a hand on these, but if you want them mailed for Xmas, order before the 18th!

Pickup at WhiskyLab may still be available after that, if Santa says you've been good 😉

Something unique in Estonia - I talked to Moe Distillery last year, makers of the first whisky in the country. Now, they're having a special auction to celebrate 5 years since their first whisky was bottled...

Tamm & Rukis is a 100% Estonian rye whisky, and you can find out more about it on their auction site below:

OUR FIRST FRENCH IMPORT: DOMAINE DES HAUTES GLACES 🏔️🇫🇷🥃

It's here! A year after I visited this French alpine distillery for the first time, we have the Indigène single malt in stock at EuroWhisky 👍

This is a whisky that's ideal for anyone exploring terroir, local grain, and new ways of making whisky. The bottle is beautiful - recycled glass and the mountains' outlines, plus a cork made from compressed chaff...

You're holding a part of the grains which made your whisky! 🌾

wins WorldWide Whisky Producer 2024 at the IWSC! 🇫🇮🎉

We import this Finnish single malt, and it makes great waves at our tastings alongside its rye-based Finnish counterpart, 👍🌾

It's the second time Teerenpeli has won this award (last time was in 2020), and EuroWhisky is celebrating by bringing in the rest of their core range - so you'll soon see the KASKI and 10 YEAR OLD on our virtual shelves...

The 10 will be our oldest whisky we sell! 👀

One of the IWSC judges said 'Nordic whiskey is really changing and owning their space' and it's hard not to agree - countries like Finland are really throwing down the gauntlet to other whiskymakers across Europe and setting standards in the process 👍

So the only question remains - have you* tried a Teerenpeli recently? 🥃

This is a French dram from a relatively well established distillery, but one I've never had the chance to try before -

👀 Very light colour

👃 Certainly smell the peat... I detected some freshness similar to Yeun Elez, but that is a heavier peat than this. I can feel the sweetness running down back of my nose...

👅 Fresh, light barley notes - fast becoming a classic French whisky tasting note for me. Light, with a peat taste consistently matching the smell - easy going

Tim says it's a minty smoke, and that's what I was trying to place re: the peatiness - that distinct cut of the peat, which cuts all the char/coal notes out and just keeps a sweet herbal note - it's mint! 🌿

🥃 Finish has a little taste of something sweet, almost doughy. Chou pastry... A touch of astringency... Going back to the nose, it's even sweeter! Still young, but that's to be expected

Overall, it's a light introduction to peated whisky and a good example of developing French styles. It makes me want to try some other Hautefeuille drams for sure - especially as it's a single estate whisky 🥃

We're getting lots of new imports in right now, including our first Czech whisky! This was my favourite dram from the Old Well core range when I visited this summer - Kagor Cask single malt 👀

Lightly peated single malt balanced with Kagor, a sweet red wine from Moldova 🇲🇩

A country with incredible winemaking history, yet this cask has never been used by any other whisky maker that we know of!

Licht geturfd single malt in evenwicht met Kagor, een zoete rode wijn uit Moldovië 🇲🇩

Een land met een uitstekend geschiedenis van wijnproductie, maar we denken dat niemand hebben deze vaten voor whisky gebruikt!

Proud to announce we have new imports - Austrian whisky from Destillerie Farthofer! These exciting new drams include rye, emmer, and oat whiskies 🌾

Incredible flavours, in beautiful bottles - the emmer is floral, the rye is rich, and the oats are creamy as anything!

Each bottle has a wax seal and the coordinates for where its grain came from - AND they're all aged in a completely unique type of cask, the mostello cask 🍐 🍷

Maybe you've seen the growing number of AI-generated images in the whiskey world recently. With more whisky-related info coming from sources like Chat GPT, and many people being open about using AI this way...

This blog is not here to call out individual people , or to tell you that you're a bad person for having used AI. That's not helpful ❌

The point *is* to show you what the problems are regarding AI, and why it would be a good idea to stop using it . This goes out to everyone working in the whiskey industry, or even just fans 👍

The history of whiskey in the US can be obscure. We look at the story of the liquid in the country, and discover how it defeated rum as the drink of choice, started uprisings, was used to raise taxes, and had the presidential seal of approval
