I was very lucky to see the home of Mostello (fortified pear wine) and fantastic whiskies - and then also meet members of the association as I toured the brand new distillery!

I've tried single malt before, but only the 2018 release. IMO, this 2019 was noticeably better - young but less rough, fresh and full of barley ๐พ
Almost Lowland-style, which from what I know of Dingwall and the local geography near the Black Isle is maybe not a coincidence! ๐ฒ
The Highland Rye has been on my list for ages (thanks Cam and for letting me try this!). Rich and sweet, not so earthy as some Nordic ryes like Kyrรถ or Stauning ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฐ
Think more Millstone or Lot 40 - N American rye with a little extra bite ๐
And I now have some first release from - can't wait to try this! ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

Still can't believe what a good night we had in Bolzano last week with the Bozen Whisky Club! ๐
I brought 5 great European drams, which they coupled with 2 local Tyrolean malts which perfectly rounded off the beginning and end of the tasting ๐
We journeyed across Belgium, Brittany, Germany, Finland, and Denmark, all while starting and ending with excellent Italian whiskies ๐ฅ
Can't wait to go back and do another event like this in future - thanks for having me!

A few more shots from our Prague tasting, 11.04.24๐จ๐ฟ
A little focus on Finnish whisky at the end with a contrast between the forest-smoked, caramel-sweet Kyrรถ and heavy sherried Teerenpeli ๐ซ๐ฎ
But we had favourites from every whisky of the night - I love the contrast between just these few whiskies, let alone the 800+ distilleries of the entire continent! ๐
Another evening with - with three new single malts to show off the best of Germany and Belgium! ๐ฉ๐ช๐ง๐ช๐ซ๐ท
With a typically French set of meats and cheeses to pair, we began with the Stockwerk from - rich layers of American, French, and German oak in a slightly heavier style ๐ชต
We then moved to the .radermacher 3 Year Old, a completely organic whisky with smoothness, a rich bite of new Spanish oak, and of course that classic floral Radermacher note ๐
Finally, we had a real treat - the Amontillado cask finish. Balancing light malt with rich sherry, this was a dram to chew on even at 46% ๐ท

What a weekend! Posing with my favourite bottles. Since let me try the Bastard in Kolding last year, that's been my favourite, but honestly, the new Hรธst is giving it a real challenge for that spot! ๐ฉ๐ฐ
People love the story of Stauning, and it's a great example of what European whisky can do. If you want floor malted local grain in Scotland, you essentially have Springbank and that's it - here, you get rye, Danish peat, new cask finishes?! ๐พ

I'm back from my trip away with a fresh, quick #WhiskyMeme! This is a dark dram I picked for this video, Slyrs Amontillado - beautiful sherry cask colour, but all oak gives colour to whisky. And it's still good! A little #CanadianWhisky meme to round off the week - you'd be surprised how little rye is in there if you're used to American or European drams! In fact, I've been a fan since I tried this whisky at Ar Koad in 2017 - you could say @naguelann is one of the reasons why EuroWhisky exists! โค๏ธ If you want your whisky to be delicate but not boring, this is one for you. My first visit to a Lithuanian whisky distillery - and fruit winery! ๐ซ๐ฅ Having tried some young spirit aged in blueberry wine casks in 2022, I had to come and see the finished product in Zarasai, a former spa town where @gintarosinowine makes fruit wines and delicate whiskies ๐ท Their whisky is young and still yet to develop, but it has a good clean start. Single malt is already available, but some rye spirit is ageing in casks for the future ๐ Thanks so much to Evelina and everyone for an amazing and generous day in Zarasai.
