Litmus Test Ebube-Agu Security-Network
At Last the decentralized and egalitarian society of Igbo nation had been pushed by an invisible hands prevailing in the South-Eastern region via Nigeria’s state to form ’Ebube-Agu security network just like their counterparts in Nigeria to protect lives and properties in that region from the wicked hands of marauding kidnappers, herders, bandits and others that had beseeched and invaded Nigeria and makes life hell on earth for them.
Already before the formation of this new security outfit in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria, they are known to have no centralized form of government, or organ through which every Igbo born, recognized as a rallying point for their welfare without murmuring in disagreement among them in crowds. And this had being, and no efforts had gone in to address it, and its evidenced is seen clearly in the activities of Ohaneze, its apex social cultural group, IPOB and many other groups within the zone. And this had made Igbos on several occasions, not to be working together as it should in presenting their common front as at when due for the collective welfare of the region just like others in the marriage institution called Nigeria.
The independent mindedness of the Igbo’s spirit had made them to excel on individual’s capacities in education, commerce and any other occupation one can think of, and also deprived them time to think of oneness in order to speak with one voice in the project of one Nigeria. And this had robbed them the chances of rallying less than one umbrella, in each of the elections held in Nigeria since 1979 to 1983, and from 1998 till date. They have being, going about in circles doing the same thing their forefathers did, and still gets the same outcome, going different ways that does profit them collectively.
And this type of worldviews and behaviors took them to the theater of war, historically viewed as Nigerian Civil War in 1967 to 1970, that exposed them to various forms of dehumanization like kwashiorkor and uphill task challenges in the Nigeria’s state as 3Rs policy of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction formulated by the then military Head of state, General Yakubu Gowon to bring them back and to feel sense of belonging in Nigeria again, in spite the pogrom against them. Though, it was not adequately implement to the latter, but that did not in any way deter them from picking up their pieces and going on with life as God is on their side as always. They moved from grass to grace, and continued making excellent waves in many vocations around the world p to date.
Yet they had not learnt their lessons to unite themselves as there are unity in their strength, though they go in their different ways for the benefit of their individual’s successes outside their common goods. As some of them canvas for resurgence of Biafra –IPOB while some other portions head for one Nigeria where I belonged, and some others were at the fence, as they are confused or apolitical of where to belong neither here nor there
However, as Chief Nnamdi Kanu the leader of IPOB is the diaspora drumming the ember of war again for succession, and claiming that he is in control and has security network in the whole of South-Eastern region of Nigeria as he air the same with so many evidences to prove his presence, and yet spate of attacks on Igbos communities are always carried out successfully by this hoodlums despite his affirmation and claims.
And it is on this basis that the government of the South-Eastern region built on and established the Ebube-Agu security network to protect its people from these incessant harassments that could lead to extinction. And since then, IPOB had been issuing threats of killing those that joined the new Ebube-Agu security force and enable them join their ancestors untimely.
Now the questions arise, who are the leaders of Ndigbos? Are the Governors of the South-Eastern states in control of Igbo nation? What does Chief Nnamdi Kanu represents in Igbo nation as a whole? How can a falcon hear falconers in Igboland of today without accusing finger? Ebube-Agu security network recently formed would reveal a lot of thing in Igboland as day go by. Only time will tell where Igbos are in Nigeria equations? These are some of the questions boggling the minds of many within and without.
