Jack Danielโs first major line extension in 1988, Gentleman Jackโs double charcoal mellowing makes it an exceptionally smooth - albeit less interesting - drinking experience.
Gentleman Jack is a perfect balance of vanilla, caramel, and oak that lands squarely on the sweet, easy-drinking side. Fans of low proof bourbons (such as Basil Haydenโs as an example of a bourbon that others often refer to as their go-to) should find a lot to like with Gentleman Jack. Because it has less of the quintessential Jack Danielโs flavor notes, those who may not care for the standard Jack might find something to like as well. For bourbon enthusiasts on the other hand, Gentleman Jack offers little to get excited about. Itโs a good reminder that not all whiskeys were made for you, but also one to have on hand for guests who are looking for a smooth, easy-drinking pour.
Gentleman Jack was Jack Danielโs first major line extension back in 1988. At that time, American whiskey was perceived much differently than it is currently, fighting vodka for just a little bit of shelf space with nowhere near the surge of popularity itโs seeing today.
Gentleman Jack undergoes the same Lincoln County Process (charcoal mellowing) as standard Jack Danielโs after distillation and before barrelling, at which point there is still no distinction between the two whiskeys. The second charcoal mellowing, which takes place after aging but before bottling, is what makes Gentleman Jack different from standard Jack Danielโs.
The process is considered a subtractive process, removing harsh impurities with the intent of making the whiskey more โsmooth.โ Along with the impurities, the process also removes color and flavor. While many whiskeys are filtered through charcoal after aging in barrels, the extent to which Gentleman Jack is charcoal mellowed a second time after aging isnโt a common practice.

The world's most famous name in Bourbon, Jim Beam, provide a even more intense and complex Bourbon experience with their Black Label Bourbon. Triple Aged for 6 years, this extra aging in barrel gives the Bourbon a fuller flavour that takes on some great winter spice notes such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Perfect for making a Mint Julep, mixing with Ginger Beer or served on its own over ice.
The Whisky Study
ABV: 43%
Cask: American White Oak
Nose: Buttered popcorn, artificial sweet, toasted caramel, ethanol, and a dollop of wood. Thereโs a hint of peanut shells but the wood is the strongest note and seems to overpower some of the more nuanced parts of this otherwise soft nose.
Palate: This is traditional Beam, with some toasted nuts, mixed with woody char. Overall, itโs a bit thin on mouthfeel and flavors, with the traditional bourbon flavors of vanilla, oak, and caramel coming through, but not leading to much complexity. The sweetness is well balanced with the more savory oak notes. The 86 proof doesnโt provide much of a mouthfeel, and instead falls flat when compared to its similarly priced stablemate Old Tub.

NOSE
Initial fruit notes of sweet pear that develop into zesty citrus peel with some dark fruits in the background. Hints of cinnamon and clove delicately work IN balance with the sweet Malaga wine cask influence.
TASTE
Luscious, with sweet orchard fruits and light hints of blackcurrants, plums and raisins. The spices slowly build adding depth with hints of clove and black pepper, layered over the oak tannins adding dark chocolate and liquorice.
FINISH
Lingering, with the spices slowly fading to reveal the fruits and oak.

The Story
Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey is matured for considerably longer than traditional Jameson Irish Whiskey โ twelve years rather than five years โ in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. In addition, an aliquot of grain whiskey that has been matured in deeply charred American oak barrels sourced from Wild Turkey is added. As a result of this unique combination, the whiskey has hints of citrus, oatmeal, sherry and smoke.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more iconic name in the Irish whiskey world than "Jameson." The Jameson tradition dates all the way back to 1740, when John Jameson was born into a family whose motto, "Sine Metu" ("Without Fear"), was earned through the family's courage in fighting pirates on the high seas during the 1500s.
John Jameson himself was a living embodiment of Sine Metu, and his ancestors' bravery inspired in John a boldness that led him not only to open his own distillery in the latter 18th century, but also to pioneer the technique of triple-distilling whiskey โ now the gold standard in the Irish whiskey industry. John Jameson lived to be 83 โ an impressive feat for someone born in the 18th century โ and his descendants John II, John III and John IV all honored his legacy by leading the distillery well into the 20th century.
Jameson Irish Whiskey is crafted from a mash of malted and unmalted barley that is triple-distilled โ just as it was by John Jameson himself centuries ago โ through three separate copper-pot stills: a wash still, a feint still and finally a spirit still. The mash itself is made using barley, maize and pure Irish water, further adding to the unique character of the whiskey.

MATURED TWICE IN AMERICAN OAK, LAPHROAIG QUARTER CASK PRESENTS AN IRRESISTIBLE DOUBLING OF FLAVOR.
Because the second maturation takes place in smaller, quarter-sized casks, the spirit has more contact with wood. This lends hints of coconut, banana and vanilla to the instantly recognizable Laphroaig flavor of smoky peat complemented by a surprising sweetness.
It should be enjoyed alone, over ice or with a splash of water to fully pay tribute to the unique flavor. Laphroaig Quarter Cask begins its maturation in ex-bourbon barrels and, while still aging, is transferred to small quarter casks. Aging in smaller barrels revives an old tradition, paying tribute to the master distillers who have perfected the Laphroaig process over two centuries.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask has a depth of flavor achieved through a double maturation process. Along with the signature smoky taste of our peated whisky you'll also find notes of coconut, vanilla and banana that are imparted by close contact with American white oak. This delicious whisky should be served simply โ over ice, on its own or with a splash of cold water.
It starts its life the same way all Laphroaig whiskies do, in a time-honored tradition which has been perfected over two centuries. The malted barley is first smoked then dried over a fire fuelled by peat, hand-cut on the Isle of Islay. After fermentation it's aged in first-fill bourbon barrels, made from American oak.
