The 1990s see Alexandre Gabriel from Maison Ferrand combing the Caribbean in search of the best rums of the region. Plantation is born: an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics. Grappa was born in the 1400s, obtained by the peasants from the โleftoversโ of wine making, which were distilled mixed together without any distinction of the vine variety.
After years of research, on December 1, 1973 Giannola and Benito Nonino created the first single varietal grappa, Grappa Cru Monovitignoยฎ Picolit. Thus they started the Grappa Revolution, and its subsequent transformation from a byproduct into a fine example of the Italian Tradition with Nonino as the pioneers and voted best distillery in the world in 2019.

This is the most distinct of wines, a vin jaune, produced in a method somewhat similar to fino sherry. Barrels are partially filled with the best quality Savagnin wine, and the wine ages 'sous voile' similar to a flor. It ages for at least 6 years and 3 months, and can last for decades in bottle. This special wine also has its own bottle, called "clavelin", of 620ml. This quantity also symbolically represents the yield of finished product from a liter of base wine.
In the glass it has an intense straw yellow colour. The nose is complex and reveals aromas of nuts, ripe yellow apples, candied fruit and spices such as curry and vanilla. The sip is intense, persistent, nutty and fragrant, with firm acidity and great texture. A smoky, fresh bread note lingers on the finish.
It goes very well with noble poultry and white meats in general, as well as aged cheeses such as Comtรฉ. ๐ฅ๐ซ

Day 5 - Chablis, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chassagne-Montrachet
An extensive day of Burgundian experiences started with a comprehensive tasting of Domaine Billaud-Simonโs terroirs including a vintage blind tasting showcasing the exceptional ability of top Chablis to age.
The afternoon was spent in the extensive cellars of Domaine Faiveley experiencing the latest vintages with the head winemaker and cellar master including Grand Crus.
A last stop was an insightful look into the organic and biodynamic practices of Domaines Famille Picard and uncovering some hidden gems in the fantastic lineup.

Day 4 - Loire & Chablis
The historic Chรขteau du Nozet in Pouilly-sur-Loire and the centrally located cellars of Maison Rรฉgnard in Chablis hosted us for lunch and tours under the auspices of the de Ladoucette portfolio. Both wineries have a long and rich tradition of fine wine production - the quality was apparent as we tasted through the ranges including library stock from both properties.

Day 3 - Champagne
Heading south to the Cรดte des Bar we were privileged to be guided through organic and biodynamic processes at Champagne Fleury by Morgon and Francois. A walk through the vineyards was followed by a truly authentic and utterly delicious outdoor lunch amongst the vines by star chef Gil Nogueira.

After a drive through the vineyards of Champagne, we were hosted by the Champagne Taittinger family at the historic Chรขteau de la Marquetterie. Lunch was followed by a tour of the main Taittinger production facility and finally a dinner in the heart of Reims.
