Encounter Underway in Machil Kupwara: Police*

Srinagar, May 03(GNS): Police on Wednesday said that an encounter is underway between militants and security forces in Machil area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district.

In a tweet Kashmir Police Zone wrote, " Encounter going on near Pichnad Machil area of Kupwara district. Army and Kupwara police on job. Further details shall follow,".(GNS)

*Kulgam Encounter: Army soldier injured, militants likely escaped*

Srinagar, July 26:(GNS) An Army soldier was injured during predawn gunfight with militants in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.

A top police officer told GNS that the encounter ensued after a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon-and-search operation in Baryihard Kathpora area of the district. As the joint team move towards suspected target, the hiding militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off a gunfight.

In the ensuing firefight, a soldier was injured and was evacuated to hospital, he said.

Subsequently, there was lull and when this report was filed no fresh exchange of fire took place, the officer said.

Possibility of militants having escaped from the site has not been ruled out even as cordon has been strengthened, the officer added.(GNS)

Kulgam, Jul 27 (KNO): An encounter broke out between forces and militants in Brayihard Kathpora village of Yaripora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), police in a tweet informed that the gunfight has started in Brayihard Kathpora area today, saying that the police and security forces are on the job.

Pak Commandos' Hand Suspected In Deadly J&K Encounter, Say Sources

The group of militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch have been able to evade thousands of security forces for eight days while nine soldiers have died in the encounter.

The ferocity of the fighting between security forces and the group of militants holed up in the jungles of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district for at least eight days suggests the infiltrators were trained by Pakistani commandos, sources in the army and police have said.

Nine soldiers including two Junior Commissioned Officers or JCOs have been killed in the line of duty, fighting these militants since Monday, in what has become the deadliest encounter for India's military in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.

It is also unclear if any of the terrorists have been killed since no bodies have been found yet. The fighting in the 8-9 km stretch of thick forest has continued despite a massive combing operation, a tight cordon and intense shelling.(with inputs from ndtv)

Srinagar, October 15:(GNS) A Fierce Gunfight has started between militants and government forces in Bemina area of Srinagar district on Friday.

Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Bemina.

As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.

Pertinently, a militant Srinagar was killed in Wahibug area of Pulwama few hours back.(GNS)
