A gorgeous Portuguese Red with Pork Loin and a blackberry and balsamic jus 🍷

‘Dom Rafael’, Tinto, Alentejo, Portugal 2021

This Alentejo red is a real stunner. The aromas hit you right away—ripe black fruits with a touch of liquorice lingering in the background. On the palate, it’s rich and velvety, loaded with dark, juicy fruit and soft, mellow tannins. There’s a complexity to it, with layers of flavor unfolding as you sip, leading to a long, spicy finish that keeps you coming back for more.

Made from Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Trincadeira, the wine is foot-trodden and fermented in the traditional open wineries of Herdade do Mouchão. Aged for 12 months in a mix of Portuguese chestnut, oak, and French barrels, followed by six months in the bottle, it’s a beautifully balanced wine with a smoothness that only gets better with time. Perfect for pairing with a wide range of dishes, this is a bold, versatile red that’s both typically Alentejan and refreshingly modern.

Portuguese wines are some of the best value reds on the market and this field blend from Alentejo is now exception. Dark fruit like blackberries and blackcurrants are layered with spice and a gorgeous texture. This is a bombshell wine, a real cracker! One of the main grapes in the blend here is Alicante Bouschet, a very unique grape in the wine world as the pulp is dark in colour. It adds depth and perfume to this outstanding wine. 'Trinca Bolotas' meaning acorn muncher is a nod to the acorn munching Iberian pigs that are native to the area. Alentejo produces superb red wines made from the regions native grape varieties, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional.

A full bodied, rich and unctuous red wine from Ribera del Duero. Unoaked, with flavours of fresh blackberries, blueberries and plums. Made exclusively from Tempranillo, you would be forgiven for expecting it to taste similar to a Rioja, however Ribero is a much hotter place resulting in a much more robust style of wine. If you like Malbec, this one will be right up your street. The climate along the Duero is extreme, with hot dry summers and harsh winters. The hot summer days and cool evenings result in intense and full bodied reds with a firm structure and refreshing acidity.

Here I am in the south of France with Brad Pitt enjoying a glass of rose with him... I wish!

All joking aside, Brad's wine is both style and substance. You don't see his name on the bottle as he has an understated approach to his Chateau. He has hired one of France's best winemakers to create this stylish range of wines.

Miraval is located in the heart of Provence, in the village of Correns, and is the first totally Organic village in all of France.

Why is it so special?
