Wine Passion of the Day. Day 14!

Ireland’s greatest wine maker Mayo’s own Roisin Curley MW. 🇮🇪

One of the finest winemakers in the world in recent years in Burgundy but firmly from Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo ♥️💚

She hand picks the very best crops from artisan Burgundian grape growers and turns them into wonders of wine.

Roisin became a Master of Wine in 2020 and everyone in Ireland should be immensely proud of this fantastic Irish Winemaker who still runs her family pharmacy in Mayo for 6 months of the year.

Hugely sought after wines both in France and here at home. We’re lucky enough to receive allocations on arrival of all here new wines as they reach Ireland.

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 12!

Wine Enthusiast New World Winery of the Year Bodega Garzon from Uruguay 🇺🇾

From Uruguay with a tiny population of just 3.5million comes one of the most decorated wineries in the world Bodega Garzon.
Squashed in between the mammoths of South America Argentina and Brazil along the beautiful Atlantic coast.

Specialists in Albariño and Tannat. We’ve been passionate sellers of their super wines for many a year.

Recently awarded New World Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast and thoroughly deserved.

If you haven’t tried a Garzon yet stick it on your to-do list for 2025 🍷

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 11!

Malbec from Cahors, France 🇫🇷

The home of Malbec deep in the southern countryside of France. Approx 1/2 way between Toulouse and Bordeaux.

Very different style of wine to its mega famous Argentinian 🇦🇷 cousin. Can vary between big rich earthy dry food styles all the way to easy light drink on its own styles.

Nearly all of the wines coming from Cahors are organic and sustainably farmed.

We love these and they tend to be drier and much more of a food wine.

Imagine kneeling down lakeside and taking a drink of a rich dark berry red with hints of chocolate and spice with just the right balance of tannin and acidity.

Stick on a rib eye with homemade sweet potato fries sprinkled with paprika.

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 9!

The Iconic Rolling Hills of Tuscany 🇮🇹

Back in Sept 2019 I was lucky enough to visit Montepulciano, Montalcino and Bolgheri in spectacular Tuscany alongside Liberty Wines.

It was a trip of a life time for any wine fan getting to meet and taste wines from truly wonderful wine families including Valdipiatta from Montepulciano, Fossacolle and San Polo from the Brunello vineyards of Montalcino and eventually onto the slopes of Bolgheri visiting one of the worlds most celebrated wineries Biondi Santi.

Incredible couple of days tasting through some of the world’s greatest wines.

The home of Sangiovese with its bitter sweet zingy acidity and its la vita e belle approach to life and food and wine matching

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 7!

Craft Cocktails from Bar 1661, Green Street, The Fruit Market, just off Capel Street, Dublin 7 🇮🇪

Okay so we’re technically not talking about wine here but this is the cream of the crop of pre-made cocktails.

Founded by Dave Mulligan the man behind 1661 who won best cocktail bar in Ireland twice before Covid closed the bar temporarily and they pivoted massively and brought their superb mixes to the masses and the off trade.

1661 rightly so has a reputation for being the Michelin star of Cocktail venues and their Craft Cocktails have never failed to impress.

We are absolutely huge fans here!

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 6!

Dow’s Vintage Ports, Douro, Portugal 🇵🇹

We’ve over 50 different types of fortified wines from around the world but one of our all time favourite Port producers are Dow’s.

The name of Dow’s has been closely linked with the finest ports from the Douro Valley for over two centuries.

Since 1912, five generations of Symington winemakers have lived and worked at Dow’s vineyards at Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, producing many memorable wines including the only Vintage Port made this century to receive a perfect 100-point score.

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 5!

Finding a hidden gem under the stairs when you thought you had no wine left and the strongest storm in Irish history is about to hit Ireland and all the shops are closed!
Aka Masi Passo Doble Malbec Corvina, Argentina

There were panic stations and plan a-z which were all doomed to failure when I suddenly found a spare bottle of Masi Passo Doble Organic Malbec Corvina under the stairs last night.

It was like getting your leaving cert results and realising you passed Irish to keep the cao hopes alive!

Note to self: always listen to Met Eireann going forward and always panic buy like my wife’s home town Tesco in Mayo(see Theresa Mannion’s Tweet in pic) which sold out of bread and toilet roll!

Dont be an amateur….always have a bottle in reserve!

A super value Argentinian from the kings of the Veneto, Italy, Masi.

A real eye opener of what can happen when you take the best of Malbec and combine with the Amarone Valpolicella grape Corvina and add a dash of Italian passion.

One of our many many many Organic and Sustainably farmed wines on our shelves!

All going to plan we will be back open after 11am when safe to do so. Stay safe everybody.

Wine Passion of the Day. Day 4!

Domaine Lafage family winery, Perpignan, France

Deep in the heart Catalan Rugby country lies one of the best family run wineries in the world led by Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage.

Lafage are world leaders in sustainable organic farming and passionate about regenerative agriculture and ensuring we have healthy vineyards in Europe for many years to come.

We were fortunate to visit the beautiful winery and city of Perpignan back in August 2022 alongside some of wine independent friends and importer Bren from Mackenway Wines.

A full write up of the trip can be viewed on the blog section of our website https://baggotstreetwines.com/blog/post/visiting-our-friends-in-domaine-lafage.html

From zesty zingy aperitif whites and sparkling to crisp summer in a glass Provence style Rose to the deepest rich brooding Grenaches. They are a hugely diverse wine producer on the foothills of the Pyrenees and we loved them all.

Imported by our great friend Bren from Mackenway Wines

Superbly hosted by Marion and Ramuntxo from Lafage Wines.
