2006 Marcel Deiss, Schoenenbourg

Marcel Deiss is a 52-acre estate in Bergheim, in the Alsace. Jean-Michel Deiss is the current winemaker and he descends from a long line of winemakers. The Deiss family has been making wine in Bergheim since the 18th century and Jean-Michels’ son Mathieu is now working with him. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that Jean-Michel “has been growing some of the finest wines in Alsace for more than a quarter of a century…” Parker notes that Jean-Michel started replanting in the 1990s with the goal of making single vineyard wines. The estate makes well-reviewed Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, and a portfolio of red and other white wines.

2021 Coche Dury, Bourgogne Chardonnay

Domaine Coche-Dury in Meursault, Burgundy, is renowned for its Corton-Charlemagne and Meursault-Perrieres. The 26.4 acres estate is owned by Jean-Francois Coche-Dury, who is one of Burgundy’s most respected producers. Vineyards are planted to Chardonnay, Aligote, Gamay and Pinot Noir. Though the estate is known for its white wines, it also makes a small amount of red wine. About 5,000 bottles of the two signature wines are made each year. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that Jean-Francois Coche-Dury “produces some of the region’s longest-lived, most aromatically complex, and compellingly textured white wines.”

This volupuous fruity wine rejoices in its’ youth. A recent addition to our winery, this is an easy drinking wine which we are confident will age well.
This ‘climat’ (plot) previously know as “Le Clou” takes on again its’ original name, “Le Cloud”.

Situated to the North of Côte de Beaune at the foot of the Montagne de Corton, just at the limit of the Côte des Nuits, in the appellation “Ladoix Villages”, the plot called “le clou”, which gets its' name from “cloud”, is now part of our domaine. Le Cloud covers 2.16 hectares of which 1.68 ha is planted with pinot noir and the remaining 0.48 ha in chardonnay. Acquired in 2010, this terroir is in the process of being tamed and trained in keeping with the philosophy of Domaine Prieuré Roch. These fresh, fruity wines will delight and surprise year after year, vintage after vintage.

These vineyards were given to the Church in 775 by the Emperor Charlemagne. A pale gold, with age Corton-Charlemagne wines transform with nuances of amber and yellow. The bouquet, wealth and distinction of Corton-Charlemagne indicate a remarkable acidity, perfectly controlled by a round opulence on the palate. The 2016 vintage was characterised by particularly marked weather variations: spring was cool, wet and relatively late whereas summer was warm and dry with a heatwave in late August followed by dry and sunny weather over the harvest period which was highly beneficial to the ripening of the grapes. Our Pinot noirs thrived in these dry, sunny conditions and the heat has given them an intensely fruity character and silky smooth texture. The Chardonnays are just as outstanding although more chiselled and saline in character.

Tasting Griotte-Chambertin is always cause for reflexion: the aromas are complex and subtle, with hints of cherry liqueur, preserved cherry, fine leather, nutmeg. When the wine matures, there are hints of truffle and venison. The flavours are also arresting in their own way and the tannins, although present, are never aggressive or coarse. Long and persistent on the palate, with a glorious aftertaste.
