This former principality of Catalonia is now the French département Pyrenées-Orientale, but its inhabitants remain fiercely Catalan. Beginning at Perpignan and ending at the Spanish border in the Pyrenees, fertile soils support 18,500 hectares of vines (80% on slopes up to altitudes of 600m) that produce an abundance of fruit and excellent wine from principal grapes Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Muscat and Macabeo. The region produces 90% of France’s Vins Doux Naturels (fortified sweet wine).

✨New Wine Wednesday! ✨ Have you tasted our newest offering from Domain Roquemale?

In the picturesque Roquemale valley south-west of Montpellier, Valérie and Dominique Ibanez's award-winning 'Lema' rouge is a textbook Southern French blend.

🍇Formed largely of Grenache Noir and Syrah enlivened by a 'soupçon' of Cinsault, this cherry-scented red has spice and cocoa in abundance with a wonderful eucalyptus lift. Certified organic.

🍴Valérie and Dominique suggest pairing it with simply grilled veal fillets or slow-braised lamb shanks.

Brilliant food and wine pairing inspired by a recent lunch event at hosted by our friends Douglas and Susanna of from their estate in the High Weald.

Fiona Beckett said the following about the combination of Trisha’s ‘Masala fried soft shell crab, white crab, tomato chutney ‘and the Busi Jacobsohn Cuvée Rosé 2019.

"Crab of course goes well with rosé anyway and sparkling wine is great with deep-fried food so it wasn’t a massive leap to pair the two when spices were involved especially when they were as subtle as at Trishna which has a Michelin star.

The wine was one of the most elegant English rosés, Busi-Jocobsohn’s 2019 Rosé Brut which has a lowish dosage of 6.3g which counters the idea that you need wine with a touch of sweetness with spicy food.

However it is a single vineyard wine and slightly fuller and riper than the extra brut rosé of theirs I’ve tasted before which helped it stand up to the dish (and makes for more pleasurable drinking too)."

The Busi Jacobsohn Cuvée rosé 2019 is available £39.75 from our website, alongside a full range of the estates other fantastic sparkling wines.

Yes, we are still here!

Although we’re slowly packing-up shop and moving lock, stock and barrel to our new premises in Sparkford in a few weeks’ time, we wanted to remind locals that our Mere shop is still open for business until Friday 14th June when we'll be closing our doors for the very last time.

We have artwork, books and posters available for purchase as well as our full range of wines, so do make sure you pop-in to to bid us farewell before we go! 👋

Our very own Grant Berry hosted the event, pairing 5 delicious rosés with 5 superb courses. Thanks to the Wraxall team for a wonderful evening!

Savoie: Domaine de L'Idylle Cruet Alpine Jacquère 2022:
🌿Refreshingly lower in alcohol than many white wines, it makes up for its 11.5% ABV by being exuberantly brimming with orchard fruit flavours, lovely flinty mineral notes and floral lift.

Reuilly: Gerard Cordier Pinot Gris 2023:
🌿Barely-blushing pink in hue, it can be a terrific palate-sharpener though its aromatic red berry flavours pair particularly well with langoustines, spicy Asian laksa or lemon-dressed salads.

IGP Collines Rhodaniennes: Patrick Jasmin 'La Chevalière' 2022:
🍇From world-renowned Côte Rôtie winemaker Patrick Jasmin comes this pure Syrah that has the grand appellation's hallmark sleek bramble fruit, savoury edge and cool mineral core. 🌿

Today we pulled out the old basket press from Auguste Clape, unfortunately we aren’t able to take this beautiful object with us to Sparkford but (unsurprisingly) it was sold super quick today and going to a great new home.

The 'monster clear-out' prior to our relocation to Somerset continues to unearth treasures from our cellars. While waiting for the Big Bin End Sale to begin on Thursday 24th May, we've updated our Fine and Rare page with precious bottles that we've cellared over the years in Wiltshire.

These releases include Magnums of white Grange des Pères (2000), red Château Simone with a decade in bottle, mature Grand Cru Bordeaux, and a small number of bottles of 'Le Coin Perdu' 2021 from Château la Canorgue.
Heck, there's even a spot of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon!

Do not fear... the corkscrews are coming with us to Sparkford! Here's Bianca taking the very last one off the wall. Some of them have been there for over 50 years 👀

We're slowly dismantling our shop in Mere and preparing for our big move to Sparkford in June. Although we're moving to modern premises, we're taking all of our old memorabilia with us to make it feel like home.

Our brand new shop opens in Sparkford on the 19th June - hope to see you there!

Here's a little info about what to expect:

'After the closure of Le Gavroche back in January, we are delighted to continue our longstanding collaboration with the Roux family at Emily Roux’s restaurant Caractère, in Notting Hill Gate, for a convivial lunch party on Thursday 16th May.

The lunch will commence at 11:30am, starting with aperitifs, followed with a four-course meal, each dish partnered with some of our most delicious wines. Jason Yapp will talk guests through a selection of 6 different wines while Emily and Michel Roux will be on hand to discuss their seasonal Spring menu. Tickets are £175 pp.'
