VOL DE NUIT 2023- fresh off the boat is the 2023 vintage Vol de Nuit Provence Rosé. As always, in perfect time for...errr...Spring.
A blend of Clairette and Rolle, with Syrah and Cinsault given 10 hours maceration prior to pressing.
Le Loup Bleu have been working without chemical intervention for over 20 years now.
A beautifully poised vintage with a red and rosé fruit core, plus plenty of citrus balanced acidity and a long clean finish. Absolutely delicious.

2015 Schlossberg Riesling from ... not my usual takeaway pizza wine match but a serious treat.
Gained some mass and weight since I last tasted it in 2020. Still with bags of life and vitality to it, chocked full of candied lemons, mango, and honey.
Really very impressive indeed.

Just managed to get my hands on the last few bottles of this delicious, unique, tipple...
Found only for a short time after harvest ( usually around the 2nd or 3rd weekend of October), Weiderweisser is very young wine in an early and ongoing fermentation process.
Low in alcohol and relatively sweet, it is delicious, refreshing, and lightly fruity.

Always enjoyable to head up to 'Laandon' to taste new wine and rub shoulders with all the other like-minded wine merchants sommeliers etc.
Even better to meet the growers now that normal travel has resumed.
A truly excellent and interesting selection as per usual from
Anyone who isn't aware of quite how good Spain has become should think again.

I am very pleased to have got my hands on a small parcel of exquisitely made wines from Navarra based duo-Aseginolaza Y Leunda
Vines are uncertified organic, and the use of oak is minimal and well considered, never masking any of the fruit.
The results are wines of elegance, complexity, and restraint..

-We'll be serving the delicious and characterful X Bulles msde by top organic Muscadet grower to go with our snacks for the table.
90% Melon and 10% Cot, the X Bulles is made with the Methode Ancestrale, and is a refreshing, crisp Brut with golden tiints & weighs in at a modest 11.5% abv.
-Tickets are on sale now at £65 a head for all food and wine courses.

Our Autumn menu is out and we are very excited to have secured a 2nd date in Alresford.
The details are-
- £65 a head
- Thursday 20th October 7.30pm
- 4 courses with 'snacks for the table' to start with
- A glass of wine paired with each course.

As you will see all courses are vegetarian
Brave, you may say! However we think it is a great idea, what with the price of produce these days, and just as important, we wanted our pop up to carry a more ethical and environmental ethos..not forgetting that we believe these vegetarian dishes will be delicious, of course!

CB Syrah 2020-
A WWW favourite from Christophe Muret, based in
Castelnau-de-Guers in the heart of Picpoul country.
Easy going yet with enough structure to go work
with stews, red meata and cheeses, the CB Syrah is ideal for the danker, more gloomy months.
With medium acidity, medium tannins, dark fruits, spicy and gamey notes, its a bit of a bargain too.

Cheveau Macon Solutre Pouilly 2020-
I've genuinely lost count of how many vintages I've has of the infamous 'MSP' from the excellent Maconnais producer and in that time its gained an almost cult following too.
The 2020 is another exceptional wine- pure, expressive and mineral led with great depth and concentration.

The Grecian delight that is Xinomavro is now available.
It's a new one on me. Yet after some rigorous tasting I was seriously impressed.
It thrives in the North of Greece, this example comes from Naussa, and is produced by the Foundi family, who have been growing grapes here since the 1930s. The area is famed for almost Barolo-like reds with high acidity, pronounced tannins and wines that have the ability to age very well and slowly.
This 2013 is only just getting into its stride and should be drinking well from now until 2025. Expect sour cherries, blame olives and sun dried tomato against a background of structure and minerality.

Baldovar 923- arrival of new wines from Valencia, Spain 🇪🇸
2 unique and intriguing wines available from mountain winery Baldovar 923.
Vines range from 900 to 1100 metres and consist of Bobal, Mencia, Macabeo and Merseguera.. Vines age from 20 to 80 years old. All work is done by hand using only organic materials, where necessary.
-Canada Paris 2018 (white)- 100% Merseguera. Light ((11.5 abv) Complex, unique, fresh, lively, herbaceous- £108 for 6 bottles
-Cerro Negro 2018 (red)- 100% Mencia. Fresh mountain red (12% abv) deprh, charm, spice, savoury-£120 for 6 bottles.

Thoroughly enjoying this bottle of Blue de Minuit Côtes de Provence 2020 from Domaine L'Heure Bleue.
Based in Gonfaron, France, the Minuit is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and lesser known Calitor..it is complex, gentle and refreshing with a gentle background of creamy peach and sandlewood.
Its a very serious Summer rosé, and is avaliable to order straight away.

Absolute star of the show at the tasting night
Prieto Picudo 2019 from
Cubos del Paramos is an intriguing and delicious wine grown and made at El Canal, Leon in northern Spain 🇪🇸 from old reclaimed vineyards.
Dark and rich yet fresh and full of life with lovely balanced acidity, this makes an interesting and, frankly, more exciting alternative to Spains king red grape ( you know the one I mean!)

Very decent new House style Garnatxa pair from Clos de Dia, who are based in DO Terra Alta in NE Spain.
Made using few chemicals and minimal sulphur, these are pure and vibrant wines that punch well above their price tag. Please DM me for retail and trade prices
Not forgetting the Cuvee Cistus 2018 from Chateau de la Liquiere i dtank over the weekend- in fairness still youthful, but full of life, gutsy and fresh with real mineral deprh, dark fruits and heady garrigue on the nose. Very impressive.

CUBOS DEL PARAMO WINES-
-Prieto Picudo is a new grape for me. Always makes the tasting of it that much more exciting!
-PP (sorry) is native to Leon, Northern Spain grows in tightly packed small berry bunches and is notoriioy hard to produce. However it seems that Jose Garcia, already a master of Godello., Dona Blanco, and Mencia in nearby Bierzo, is already making a pretty good job of it.
The 2 wines available-
-Cubos 2019- 20-70 year old vines. It's scented and elegant, infused blueberry, plum with mineral and spice notes. Lovely bright acidity and velvet tannins make for a characterful food red- £120 for 6 bottles
-Villacalbiel 'Vino de Pueblo' 2017- all 70 year old vines, some from bush. Finished in French barrique. Really elegant and polished, deeply hued yet gentle and restrained- £210 for 6 bottles.
