News from Supper Wines - August 2022
Dear all -
Due to rising costs, the effect of Brexit, and the loss of tasting events over the pandemic which haven't really picked up since, Supper Wines has stopped trading as of 1 August 2022.
The wine business is highly competitive, with relatively low margins and a landscape that includes so many big players and supermarkets, and as an on-line retailer that mainly relies on tastings and return trade, we found the last two years has made continuing trading unsustainable.
Our web site will close in a few weeks, but our Facebook and Twitter will stay live, and that's where you'll find out information as things progress.
Thank you to the people that have made the business worth running for the last seven years - our customers - and we hope you've enjoyed your supper wines with aplomb and delight.
Huge thanks to our wine producing partners in Spain, especially Celler La Vinyeta who hosted our groupages and supplied us with our favourite wines, and to our good friends at Morgenrot - our sole UK wholesaler - who we know we'll work with again in any new adventures.
Finally, thank you to the partners who have hosted our tasting events - apologies if I forget anyone but I'll rectify this list when I remember :
- Aurora (now Jessie's Latin Lounge)
- Hunter Gatherer Coffee
- Portsmouth Hispanic Society
- Royal Naval Club and Royal Albert Yacht Club
- Romsey Wine & Dine
- University of Portsmouth Faculty Club
- Romsey and District u3a
..and all of the people who graciously hosted our wine tastings in their homes, and allowed us to share our wines with them.
A special 'thank you' to Paul Dawkins of Romsey Wine & Dine, who acted as friend and mentor when the ambition of entering the world of wine was just an idea. And a very special thank you to Mrs Supper Wines - Helen has been the keeper of the names and the sender of the newsletters all these years, and has put up with all this since well before the beginning.
Our licenses remain valid, and we hope to be back in the future with a different business model...so...
SALUD y ADIÓS...por ahora
