We sell and promote English wine. Exceptional quality. Locally sourced. Expertly Curated. We were delighted by the quality.
Many years ago a seed (or should I say pip?) was sown that has grown into Grape Britannia. In April 2006 my wife and I got married at our local vineyard, Chilford Hall, on a day full of the promise of spring, with the vines just waking from their dormancy after a long cold winter. A few weeks earlier we had tasted the Chilford Hall range with a view to selecting a wine to drink on our wedding day.
The sparkling rosé was the perfect start to our marriage. Over the years, since that magical day, my passion for wine has grown, and I have absorbed myself in learning more about the world of wine, taking the Wine & Spirit Education Trust exams (I am proud to have now got my Level 4 Diploma!). In 2018, as I tasted more and more wonderful examples of English wines, I decided that I would follow my heart and leave the world of accountancy to become a small part of the amazing English wine industry. My hope is to share these stunning wines as widely as possible and to spread the message about the quality revolution that has taken place.

10% off English Sparkling rosé!
This is sort of a Valentine’s promotion. Because what could be more romantic than a beautiful sparkling rosé? But it’s also an end of January promotion, or possibly even an ‘it’s a lovely sunny day in Cambridge’ promotion. Because we love sparkling rosé, whatever the occasion. And now it’s 10% off across our range. Available from in store, or from the link below. 💗💗💗
We commend those undertaking this year (if rumour is to be believed, one of the Grape Britannia team is even taking part!). However, we’re also very supportive of , an opportunity to try something different in the new year. In the spirit of Try January, we’ve put a range of slightly less well-known styles in our window display. Can you work out what all the categories are? How many have you tried?

It’s feeling properly Christmassy now at Grape Britannia (our warming urn of mulled wine is definitely helping!). We’ll dispatching online orders over the next few days, and recommend ordering by 12pm on Wednesday 18th for Christmas delivery. Otherwise, why not come in and choose a few bottles in person - perhaps with a mug of mulled wine or glass of English fizz? Pictured are a few bottles we’ve been enjoying recently, all great for gifts, or just some festive indulgence!
This Christmas, we’ve reached deep into the Grape Britannia cellars to put together two very special cases of aged English Pinot Noir, the vast majority of which aren’t available to purchase anywhere else.
Our first is a celebration of 2018, the breakthrough vintage for English and Welsh red wines. We’ve got six wonderful 2018 Pinots, including wines from a range of top English producers, such as Gusbourne and Simpsons and, perhaps most excitingly of all, White Castle’s barn-storming 2018 Pinot Noir, which made national headlines when it won a Decanter Gold Medal (the second ever UK red to do so).
Our second case offers three 2018 reds from Balfour Hush Heath, all of which have become legends. The Red Miller, the first ever English 100% Pinot Meunier still red wine, has something of a cult status (such that we’re regularly asked about it, despite Balfour running out years ago!). The Suitcase, a Pinot Noir with the most amazing chocolate and coffee notes layered over intense dark berry fruits. And Luke’s Pinot, an archetypal cool climate Pinot Noir that set a benchmark.
All these wines have been carefully cellared in temperature controlled conditions for the past five years and are in beautiful form. Tempting as it is to drink them ourselves, we are offering these unique cases to discerning wine lovers, offering not just some gorgeous wines, but the chance to own a part of English and Welsh wine history.
Not sure which wine to have? Try them all with our wine flights, now available in the Grape Britannia bar. Enjoy 3x70ml pours of sparkling, white or red, perfect for comparing and contrasting.
In other news, next Tuesday (Dec 10th) we’ll be moving onto our Christmas ‘Wines by the Glass’ list. Stay tuned for some rather special wines!

Minimising our impact
Grape Britannia is serious about reducing our impact on the environment.
We’re proud that drinking domestically-produced wine generates a much lower carbon footprint than drinking wine sourced from further afield – and with the tremendous blossoming of English wines in recent years, there is absolutely no compromise on quality.
Transporting a case of 6 bottles of English Sparkling Wine from Ridgeview in Ditchling, East Sussex, to Grape Britannia’s shop in Cambridge produces only a third of the CO2 emissions of importing Champagne from Epernay, and one-ninth of those created by bringing a case of Cava or Prosecco to our shop. *
What is more, we pledge carbon-neutral cycle deliveries to domestic addresses within the CB1 to CB5 postcodes.
In line with our efforts to minimise the environmental impact you’ll find that wherever possible, we re-use suppliers’ boxes to send wine to you.
