Cape Chamonix, Greywacke Pinotage - an elegant red from a historic South African estate 🍷

£19.50/single bottle

The Greywacke Pinotage has a deep garnet red colour with tinges of dark violet. The bouquet is complex with scents recalling wild berries, spice and cherries. On the palate, the wine shows full body and rich dark chocolate extract with fruit flavours balanced elegantly by tannins with a long and lingering finish that reveals a sweetness reminiscent of liquorice.

Introducing the Lawson's Dry Hills Ranu - a special co-ferment of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer🍷

New Zealand, 2023

The Ranu has a beautiful floral nose and array of fruit characters including red apple, lime and white peach. The palate is dry with intense flavours and a lovely mineral character, particularly from the Riesling component. All three varieties make their presence felt with the Riesling providing an acid focus, the Pinot Gris giving a lushness to the mid-palate and the Gewurztraminer bringing weight and a little phenolic structure.

This stunning red is deep purple in colour. The nose opens with a bouquet of maraschino cherry and plum, with some spicy notes and a slight savoury character. Vibrant, fresh on the palate with silky, ripe tannins and a luscious finish.

Lawson's Dry Hills Reserve Chardonnay - a rich and complex wine from the coastal vineyards of New Zealand 🍷

On the nose, this Chardonnay has enticing aromas of lemon, honeysuckle and brioche, with subtle hints of smoke and beeswax. Viña Ardanza Reserva - a stellar wine from La Rioja Alta! 🍷

Spain, 2017

This Rioja Reserva is an outstandingly bright, lively and intense garnet red, with an incipient cherry red rim. The first nose is very intense, with spicy, balsamic and ripe fruit notes. After swirling, aromas of black pepper, sweet liquorice, nutmeg, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon make their appearance. It delivers a mouth full of flavours, with a pleasant acidity and balance, and very polished tannins that enhance the harmonious structure. The aftertaste is complex and elegant with spicy and balsamic hints. The 2017 vintage is ready to enjoy right now, but still has a long life ahead.

About the Producer:

Thorne & Daughters was started in 2013 by John and Tasha Seccombe with the aim of producing authentic wines from the Western Cape. It is widely acknowledged to be one of the forerunners of the ‘New Wave’ wine movement in South Africa. Thorne & Daughters is mainly focused on producing Cape white blends, from 15 different growers in Bot River, Stellenbosch, Voor Paardeberg, Swartland, Citrusdal, Franschhoek and Overberg.

This wine showcases the benefit of low yields in the intensity of its flavours. It offers vibrant bramble, blackcurrant, and dark cherry aromas, before a palate which shows power, weight and depth of flavour. It is satiny smooth, with fine and elegant tannins.

Bodegas Garzón Reserve Albariño - £19.50

Pale yellow in colour with fruity aromas, this stunning and fresh Albariño is balanced with notes of citrus and peach. The freshness and minerality on the mid-palate is superb, ably supported by a remarkable acidity which frames the juicy fruit on the crisp finish.

This delicious wine is a pale yellow in colour. The nose is open and intense, boasting pleasant aromas of grapefruit, mango and white flowers. The palate has a very good balance between tension and finesse, culminating in a long, saline finish.

Duffour Père et Fils, IGP Côtes de Gascogne - £9.95
(France, 2023)

This wine is a classic, great quality wine. The traditional grape varieties of Colombard, Gros Manseng and Ugni Blanc are expertly blended to give vibrant citrus and exotic fruit with an aromatic finish. It is a bright pale yellow in colour, with youthful highlights. It is very aromatic with white peach and tropical fruit notes. On the palate, it is crisp with bright citrus flavours, good weight and a lasting, clean aromatic finish.

Wines of Veganuary! ⭐️

1. Pedrera Monastrell - £9
A great value for money red. From Spain’s “deep south”, this savoury, strawberry jam red wine has plenty of briary fruits and an open, smooth, juicy palate and texture. Made from the Monastrell grape (aka Mourvèdre in the Southern Rhône), it captures the essence of Jumilla!

2. Azevedo, Vinho Verde Loureiro/Alvarinho - £11.50
This wine is clear and bright with youthful hues. It has intense aromas of fresh citrus fruit, ripe nectarine, lime blossom and herbaceous hints. Wonderfully refreshing on the palate with aromatic citrus and stone fruit notes, a lively acidity and a crisp and clean finish. Previously, the 2019 vintage won silver at the International Wine Challenge!

3. Cantina di Monteforte, ‘Terre di Monteforte’ Pinot Grigio Rosato - £11.95
This Italian wine is a great value juicy Rosato with delicate perfumes of red cherries and strawberries. The palate is dry and intense with lingering strawberry hints on the finish.

There are numerous excellent growing areas in South Africa, including Constantia, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Swartland and Elgin. Each area produces its own unique style of wine, many of which you will be able to browse on our site!
