Following the closure of village shop in Churchinford for the second time in as many years, the local community has set up its own “Community Shop” which is run by the community for the community. The establishment of the shop was supported by grants from Taunton & Deane Borough Council, Somerset Country Council and the Co-op. Situated in the centre of Churchinford and serving the communities of t

his, and several other, surrounding villages, our shop opened in May 2011 and is going from strength to strength. The nearest shop is approximately 5 miles away, so the provision of the shop ticks all the boxes in terms of reducing miles travelled by car and improving our carbon footprint. Since we opened, we have built up our stock and range considerably to accommodate all the suggestions and requests we’ve had from the community regarding stock. We sell bread, milk, newspapers, magazines and a wide range of quality groceries. However, we are delighted that we also stock a wide range of local produce including locally reared free range meat and eggs, speciality breads, cakes, sandwiches, dairy, fruit, vegetables, speciality foods and local crafts. We provide mobile phone top-ups and bill payment services. The shop has become a focal point for the community and is run by over 60 brilliant volunteers who give up their own valuable time to run the shop. Without them the shop could not exist. Our slogan is:

Are you a small scale producer and would like the opportunity to showcase and sell you products?

There are still a few spaces available at the Blackdown Food & Craft Fayre. Stalls are £10 and space is available inside, in one of our marquees and bring your own.

Please message or email to enquire about booking or to receive a registration form.

We always strive to have a variety of stalls and not to overlap.

Change of bread supplier

Our previous supplier, Shaldon, decided to retire their trade side at very short notice.

Our new supplier will be The Crusty Cob.

Due to this we are afraid our prices have had to increase.
