Hey wonderful friends and customers. Our Otley shop will be closed for scheduled maintenance on Saturday, 24th June 2023. While we spruce up our physical store, you can still browse, explore, and place orders through our website.

If you need your order for the weekend, we recommend placing your order before Friday, 23rd June. Orders placed after 2.00 pm Friday will be processed on Monday, 26th June.

If you’re having a very British dinner tonight for fish Friday then we have some drinks pairings you might want to try! 🐟

1. Yorkshire Tea
It’s a great British dish so you need a great British drink to accompany it and that is why tea deserves to be first on our list. Served strong and with plenty of sugar it makes the perfect partner for fish, with buttered bread and mushy peas all part of the intrinsic experience. This combination is especially satisfying on a cold winter’s day.
 
2. Wine
This one isn’t an obvious choice but it really works. However there are some rules before you delve into this experiment. The wine should be bright, acidic and refreshing; these are the three things that make it a perfect pairing for your fishy feast. A crisp white or perhaps a fruity rose would both make a delicious choice. Our suggestion – cold sauvignon blanc as it really brings out the flavours and it perfect to share!
 
3. Beer
Beer is another favourite to have alongside this delicious dish. Have you ever tried beer battered cod? The two just go hand in hand. We reckon the heavenly pairing is because of this natural affinity with batter or maybe because there is simply nothing better on a sunny day than hearty fish and chips served with an ice cold beer. Either way, cool lagers or light summer ales make excellent choices. If available, try some local brews.
 
4. Fizzy soft drinks
Last but not least, a good old favourite of many is the classic fizzy soft drink. There is no doubt that a cold Lemonade is one of the best accompaniments to a fish supper. Nothing beats washing away that saltiness with a cold glass of something fizzy and the best part is there’s so much variety that there’s something for everyone.

WINE AND TAKEOUT pairings to try this weekend! 🍷

BURGERS
🍔Beef Burger - Malbec is the perfect choice fo a meaty burger!
🍔Chicken Burger - try a lighter bodied chardonnay, the perfect pairing for white meat,

KEBAB
🍷Chicken Shish and Pinot Gris - With this being a milder option, Pinot Gris is the perfect match. The richness and fuller body of a Pinot Gris helps to complement the mild, yet very flavoursome meat of a chicken shish without becoming overpowering.
🍷 Doner Kebab and Merlot
Love it or hate it, doner kebab is a popular choice when it comes to takeaways. Merlot is a great option here, due to it being well rounded, medium-bodied, and relatively low acidity.

FRIED CHICKEN
🍗 Fried Chicken Bucket and Sauvignon Blanc- An Old World Sauvignon is a great match here. Crisp and acidic, this white helps to cut through the fat.
🍗Spicy Fried Chicken Burger and Grenache - When it comes to spicy fried chicken, we need something that can stand up against the kick, whilst also work well with the oil and grease. A Grenache can be just the ticket here! Lighter-bodied, with a rich fruity flavour, this is a great choice for mildly spicy foods.

CURRY
🍛 Chicken Tikka Masala and Beaujolais - The acidity of Beaujolais along with the low tannins creates a smooth wine that’s rich but not overpowering.
🍛 Vindaloo and Riesling - If you’re into curries that pack a punch, then something to ease the heat is a necessity here. A well-chilled Riesling can do just that, with citrusy notes and a sweetness that challenges the heat.

FISH CHIPS
🐟 Fish and Chips with Champagne - A classic combination that most people are unaware of. The high acidity helps to balance out the oil and fat from the deep-fried fish, whilst the fizziness and citrus flavours cleanse the palate leaving your taste-buds feeling refreshed.
🐟 Fish and Chips with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc - If fizz isn’t your thing, New World, dry Sauvignon from New Zealand is a great alternative. The high acidity works in the same way as the Champagne, helping to cut through the oil, whilst the tropical notes give a satisfying finish.
