Exploring the Elegance of Pinot Noir! 🍇 🇫🇷

🏛️ Originating from Burgundy, Pinot Noir is a French grape with a history dating back over 2,000 years – making it over 1,000 years older than Cabernet Sauvignon.

🍇 Delicate and thin-skinned, Pinot Noir is cherished for its intricate flavours and aromas, making it a beloved red grape variety globally.

🌤️ While it's a challenge to cultivate due to susceptibility to rot and a preference for cooler climates, Pinot Noir shines in the right conditions, producing some of the world's most elegant and complex wines.

🇫🇷 France, mostly Burgundy, boasts the largest cultivation of Pinot Noir, with approximately 100,000 hectares planted.
The iconic Côte d'Or region is particularly renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir, with Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Vosne-Romanée crafting some of the most iconic wines worldwide.

🌎 Pinot Noir is also a global grape with over 70,000 hectares cultivated in the US and 60,000 hectares in China.

🥂A fascinating fact: Pinot Noir is among the few red grapes perfect for crafting rosé and sparkling white wines. In fact, it's one of the exclusive duo (with Pinot Meunier) that allowed for the creation of Champagne, the world's most celebrated bubbles!

Let’s raise a glass to this wonderful red grape variety on ! 🍇✨

Is it Vinsanto or Vin Santo? Well… both!

🍇 Despite the similar spelling, Vin Santo and Vinsanto are two different wines with a very different tradition.

🇮🇹 Italian Vin Santo has a signature rich, amber-hued colour and boasts an intricate nutty flavour and a velvety sweetness.
Traditionally crafted from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes, it’s aged in small wooden barrels, evolving over several years.

👼 The name Vin Santo translates to ‘Holy Wine’ and has a very funny origin:
During the 1439 Ecumenical Council in Florence, a Greek monk's mistakenly identified the local sweet wine 'Vin Pretto' as a wine from 'Xantos' (Santorini) which the crowd misheard as ‘Santo' meaning ‘holy’.
To this day Vin Santo is the wine used during most Chatolic mass and rituals.

🇬🇷 Santorini's Vinsanto is traditionally made with an assemblage of Assyrtiko, Athiri, and Aidani grapes which are gently sun-dried for 8 to 15 days. Infused with the island's volcanic soil and sea-kissed breeze, this wine achieves a harmonious balance of vibrant acidity and sun-kissed sweetness, minerality and fruitiness.

📦 The name Vinsanto here simply means ‘wine from Santorini’.
Its origins can be traced to the Venetian Domination,  during this time Santorini's sweet wines were very popular in Europe and the containers on the ships were marked with 'Vinsanto’.

🇪🇺 In 2002, as Greece joined the EU, Santorini's Vinsanto makers sought 'Vinsanto' as a regional denomination. The EU's decision? 'Vinsanto' for Santorini, 'Vin Santo' for their Italian counterparts.
An intriguing name duel that found harmony in compromise.

🥂 What do they have in common?
Both wines are unique expressions of their tradition: A celebration of patience, native grape varieties, and the artistry of winemaking.

A mistake we like to make… 🥂

Prosecco is always perfect on his own but when it’s time for an , we can add a couple of twists to create a delicious cocktail!
From the iconic Spritz to the classic Hugo, and the drink that took the internet by storm... the Negroni Sbagliato 🍊

🇮🇹 Did you know that 'sbagliato' in Italian translates to 'mistaken'?
That's exactly how this famous Prosecco cocktail came into existence: It was 1972 and Mirko Stocchetto of Bar Basso in Milan accidentally swapped sparkling wine for gin in a Negroni, creating the very first Negroni Sbagliato.
🍹 Easy to make and always satisfying simply all you need is:

30ml Sweet Vermouth
30ml Campari
30ml Prosecco

🧊 Mix all the ingredients in a lowball glass over ice and enjoy

🍾 Celebrating with a glass of refreshing bubbly!

🇮🇹 From the lush vineyards in North East Italy, The Prosecco DOC denomination encompasses 4 provinces in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste, and Udine), and 5 provinces in Veneto (Belluno, Padua, Treviso, Venice, Vicenza).

🌟 World-renowned, this prolific wine region boasts 11,460 vineyards and 1,192 wineries all contributing to one of Italy's most iconic wine exports.

🍇 The heart of Prosecco lies in the Glera grape variety, native to North East Italy and celebrated since Roman times. Traditionally, it's combined with up to 15% of other grapes like Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Glera lunga, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Pinot Nero, vinified off the skins.

🤓 Fun fact: The word 'Prosecco' dates back to the mid-thirteenth century, with variations like 'Prosech' or 'Prosecum,' referring to a small town near the Trieste and Duino.

🎉 Stay tuned as tomorrow we unveil our recipe for that viral cocktail that we all love to pronounce: The Negroni Sbagliato!🍹

The Sweet Power of Santorini's Wines! 🌊🍷🌋

A breathtaking summer destination and wine lover's paradise, Santorini is a volcanic island renowned for its sweet yet powerful wines like Assyrtiko and Vinsanto.

🌋 The wines of Santorini are shaped by its unique and harsh growing conditions.
🌱The soil, composed of volcanic ash, pumice, sand, and basalt, is nutrient-poor but rich in acidity and essential minerals.
🌬️The warm, dry climate with minimal rainfall and strong winds makes Santorini effectively a volcanic desert.

🏛️With an ancient dating back thousands of years —traces of vine-growing and winemaking found during excavations of the buried city of Akrotiri.

🍇 Assyrtiko, the indigenous variety, shines as the star of the island, representing an outstanding 65% of production. It's sometimes blended with other white varieties like Athiri and Aidani, and cultivated alongside red varieties like Mandilaria and Mavrotragano.
🍷 Stay tuned this week as we delve into the enchanting aromas of the island!

🍷🍴✨ The Subtle Art Of 'La Mise En Place'

🍽️ A French culinary term that translates to "putting everything in its place”, La Mise En Place is the secret to creating a truly luxurious dining experience.
And what better way to do it than by focusing on one of the most elegant elements - the wine glasses!

🥂 Make sure to match your wine glasses to the wine you will be serving to truly let the wines express their essence perfectly.

For white wines, tall and slender glasses maintain the wine's crispness and refreshing qualities, while larger-bowled glasses for red wines allow the wine to breathe, enhancing its bold flavours and complex aromas. And let's not forget the beautiful champagne flutes, which turn every celebration into a grand affair!

With attention to detail, even a simple meal becomes a symphony of taste and elegance.

🎉 So, the next time you host a dinner party or a romantic date, take a moment to create the perfect ‘La Mise En Place' and let your wine glasses be a reflection of your love for life's finer pleasures in life.

🇮🇹🇫🇷  A joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Château Lafite, Rocca di Frassinello is a winery located in the heart of the Maremma, Tuscany.

Designed in 2007 by the legendary architect Renzo Piano, who also created The Shard in London, Rocca di Frassinello, stands as a modernist masterpiece in the heart of the green rolling tuscan hills.

💡 Rocca di Frassinello is the only winery from Piano, who revolutionised the concept of a wine cellar, breaking away from the traditional long and narrow structures and creating an imposing square cellar,
🍇 Rocca di Frassinello’s 500 hectares location has been selected to capture the essence of the finest tuscan terroir.
With 90 hectares dedicated to vineyards, grape varieties like Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Vermentino thrive here, resulting in wines that beautifully combine the best of Italy and France.

🌬️ With a constant breeze from the Mediterrenan sea moderating the climate, the terroir of this winery, shares similarities with the esteemed Chianti and Montalcino, with just one key difference, the temperatures here are an average 4 to 6°C higher, allowing grapes to ripen earlier.
🎨  As if this weren't enough, Rocca di Frassinello is also home to "Rapture of the Grape” by the renowned American artist David LaChapelle, who was inspired by the Rocca's unique sense of place for this piece.

When Wine Meets Art: Artist Wine Labels 🎨 🍷
A unique blend of craftsmanship and creativity, wine and art have a lot more in common than we often think! ✨

💫 Today, we delve into the story of the collaboration between the iconic pop-art genius Andy Warhol and Napa Valley’s Cuvaison Winery.
It was the early 1980s when Warhol, savouring a glass of Cuvaison wine at a dinner in Switzerland was asked what he thought about the wine.

👀 His response? “What a lousy label!"
Rather than taking offense, Alexander Schmidheiny, the owner of Cuvaison Winery challenged the artist to create something “worthier”.

🎨 In his inimitable Pop Art style, Warhol created over 50 custom silkscreen prints, using vibrant Polaroid pictures of grapes arranged in various patterns and colours.

🍾 Flash forward to 2016, when 35 years after the commission, Cuvaison joined forces with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, unveiling an extraordinary series of limited-edition boxes featuring two never-before-seen artworks by the Pop Art icon.

🍷 This remarkable collection features 2014 Chardonnay from the Carneros Estate and  2014 Red Bordeaux blend sourced from the Brandlin Vineyard on Mount Veeder—a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc.

🍇 Every bottle is a masterpiece of its own, the wines were produced in very limited quantities from the finest grapes harvested from Napa Valley's revered vineyards.

🍇🌞 July in the Vineyards

With Summer in full swing, let’s take a look at what’s happening in the vineyards!

July is a crucial month for the development of 2023 Vintage:

🍇Grapes have finally developed and they are slowly growing and maturing, a process that will culminate in August when they will have reached their optimal ripeness. This is when the grape flesh and skin tannins begin to develop.

🌿 The winemakers carefully monitor this process. In order to promote optimal growth, they need to monitor the weather closely as grapes thrive in the sunshine, but too much heat or too much rain might temper their growth.
They also have to thin the vines to improve airflow and sunlight exposure, which will help the grapes ripen evenly.
Often called “green harvesting,” crop thinning refers to the dropping of unripe grape bunches that are not perfect and which may not be developing in an even pattern.
The goal is to achieve the perfect balance of shade, sunlight and air circulation around each grape bunch.
