One of thee most awaited days in the wine calendar is finally here, yes indeed it’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day!!!

We have these four favourites for all of your juicy requirements. These never last too long, so you know what to do.

Now, you know that I like to ramble on whenever there’s a really nice batch of new beers, but then we reach a certain time of year and there’s so much going on that things get a little… truncated.

So, you’ll get an idea of how the last couple of days have been when I say:

Wee beers, big beers, long awaited beers, Trappist beers, alcohol free beers and some of the most potent beers we have ever stocked, classic beers and silly beers… they’re all here, have at it! 🍻

Morning all! A busy few days here in the shop, so we haven’t had an opportunity to let you know about some of the delicious new drops that have made their way to the shelves this week.

A new (beer history inspired) porter and the return of a couple of seasonally suitable styles from our pals at

A few different styles (a sour, sour IPA & an Imperial Stout) with all of the usual unusual additions from

& - keeping the sour theme - some fresh fun from Wales’ , some of the most delicious saisons that have passed oor David’s lips this year.

There may be a few other more… festive selections in too, but we’re not quite ready to talk about that yet so come and see us if you want to know any more about those. 🍻

Looking at our posts recently you might be forgiven for thinking that we’re all about beer, but a lot of wonderful wine has arrived this week too.

🇫🇷 3 new natural numbers from Domaine Viret from the south of Rhône, the world’s only practitioner of Cosmoculture (too much to go into here, but worth a look on your preferred search engine to see how seriously they take viticulture), producing wines that are both interesting and delicious.

🇪🇸 It was hard to pick just a few things from all of the delicious Spanish arrivals of the week, but a new Albariño, Rioja and Cava give you an idea of the spread. Come in and see us to have a look at the rest, including some very nice top shelf Rioja that might be worth considering if you have some celebrations coming up. 🥂

We mentioned there was more to come this week and, as you can see, we weren’t kidding.

New Holy Goats in the shape of the latest version of Damnation (their IPA), a Kriek, a Flanders Red with dates (🤤) and the 2024 edition of Foehammer, their Imperial Stout. 🐐

Some spooky Rivington collaborations, that are a little too late for your Halloween parties but are sure to be delicious nonetheless.

Some fun hoppy numbers from Two Flints and Verdant.

The ‘Hedgerow’ iteration of Burning Sky’s Provision series (mixed fermentation beer aged on damsons, blackberries and blackcurrants) alongside a crisp Pale with pronounced bitterness in the form of ‘Beacon’

A bountiful bunch of birthday beers from Baron, from the light and easy going to a ridiculous, wax sealed (yes, a wax sealed can, we repeat: a wax sealed can), drink it with a knife and fork Imperial Stout and lots of pretty interesting points in between.

And finally (well, actually not finally as we had another delivery while I was typing all this, so keep an eye out on our stories for even more) a couple of fruity sours from the US, including one with a can that reminds us of wee Haggis the Hippo.

Anyway, as I say, more deliveries just arrived so best get back to it.

Cheers for now 🍻

It’s another BIG beer week for us, both in terms of the number of beers arriving and just how good they are. It’s off to a very nice start with these Belgian bangers from De Dolle and De Ranke (with their take on Lambic), a welcome return for something from the Pilot vaults, Deya’s Steady Rolling Strata DIPA, a big indulgent porter from Põhjala and a new (to us at least) Bock from Brauerei Simon.

There’s more to come, including some things that we definitely can’t mention until later in the week but these should keep you going until your tea’s ready.

🍻

Despite what most of the cans in slide one seem to suggest it’s Halloween today, so here are some fresh arrivals to get you through your pumpkin/tumshie carving, The Shining/Poltergeist/Beetlejuice/Treehouse Of Horror watching, or indeed just to keep you company while you sit in the back room with the big light off trying to pretend that you’re not home when guisers ring your doorbell.

1. Yes, it’s the first of *those* beers of the year (the thought of which sends more of a shiver through us than any scary film) from silly sour specialists Vault City. 4 festive flavoured sours and the latest in their irregular ‘double deep fried’ Imperial Stout series. 🎄😱⛄️👻

2. After a week off, Overtone are back with a big (Deftones referencing) DIPA and a crisp, sensible strength West Coaster. 🍻

Right, best get back to painting our giant papier-mâché heads on our staff costumes*

*this might not be entirely true.

Well now, if it isn’t , and what a nice little it is!

First up, it’s one that certainly has our pals round in in somewhat of a froth, yes it’s Watermelon & Mint Schöfferhofer 🍉 🍻 🇩🇪

Next, and it has oor David in somewhat of a froth, it’s the 2022 vintage of Rodenbach, aged for 2 years in a single foeder. Fine fruity Flanders fun! 🇧🇪

On to 🇯🇵 and we have expanded our Hitachino Nest Ale selection with their Saison and Anbai (sour, salty, brewed with green plums, one for you Gose lovers out there) joining their White Ale on the shelves.

We love The Kernel, you love The Kernel, we don’t need to convince you how good they are, we just need to let you know that we got ‘A London Porter’ and the 4C (that’s Centennial, Columbus, Chinook & Citra) version of their Pale Ale. 😋🍻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

And finally, a little closer to home, 2 new belters from Otherworld, a NEIPA and a Sherry barrel aged Imperial Stout (finished with a small amount of smoked chillies to help keep the chill from your bones as the nights draw in) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍻🌶️

Nae bad, we’re sure you’ll agree.

🚨 FIZZY FUNTIME KLAXON 🚨

It seems like Lambrusco is having a bit of a moment right now, so we are delighted to expand our range to in include a zingy rosé and a dry fruity red alongside their slightly sweeter counterpart (and if you haven’t tried the rhubarby Pet Nat - not pictured here, but also in stock now - then do so at your earliest convenience), perfect for all of your party requirements.

It’s a small but perfectly formed this week, with the latest vintage of Schaarbeekse Kriek alongside 2 in their DuivelsBier range. Looking forward to trying these at our earliest convenience, and perhaps more amused than we should be by their ‘Carpe Demon’ tagline. 🇧🇪

👉 for a fun new gluten free rice lager with plum juice from Pilot (in collaboration with Tokyo’s Sakamichi Brewing), a hoppy alcohol free Pils from Jump/Ship and a seasonally suitable amber from Polly’s. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🍻

We mentioned that we would bring you a wine update today, so here it is (somewhat truncated due to an autumnal head cold induced brain fog):

We got some big reds, some much missed - by us and by you - classics, some pocket friendly purchases and some fantastic fine wine, as well as some nice new sweeties.

We got a whole lot more too, pop in for a peruse or take a look at the website as they’re on there too.

What a day! No rest for the wicked here as we try and find space for all of this new deliciousness.

You want lovely Lambic (including Tilquin’s first ever Kriek)? Nae bother. Impy Stouts? Right here. Silly sours? We (well, Pastore & Vault City) have you covered. There’s some big & juicy from Overtone and small & juicy from Baron (there’s also a delicious sessionable stout there too). If you’re not in the mood for beer we even have a couple of new ciders from Little Pomona, and if it’s wine you’re wanting then stayed tuned for a wee update tomorrow.

Best get back to it, 🍻 for now!

New beer Tuesday is upon us!
Oor David is away on his hols, so no cute quips today I’m afraid. 🥲
Just a pure streamlined beer update for you.

First slide is 3(!) new Otherworld bangers.
Second slide is 3(!) new Burning Sky belters.
Third slide is Northern Monk Patrons Project 38.04 big boi.

Bangers, belters and big bois, get in!

Another week that seems to suggest that is in rude health. All of these have arrived in the last 24 hours, and there are some

Holy Goat with a Pink Guava Sour, a Pina Colada inspired Sour and (drum roll please 🥁) a PLUM PORTER!!! Draw me like one of your overexcited beer nerds.

Overtone are back with a Peanut Butter Stout which doesn’t actually have any peanuts in it and a Peach Ice Cream Sour which doesn’t have any peaches in it… 🫤🥜🍑🍨
We’re both confused and intrigued (and a little bit thirsty).

Vault City are going in hard for autumn/spooky season with a Maple Pecan Pumpkin Pie Sour, A S’mores Sour and a Blackberry, Cherry, Plum & Squid Ink(!) Sour in collaboration with tattoo artist Freddie Albrighton. 🥧🏕️☠️

If that wasn’t enough there are a couple of barrel aged numbers from 6 degrees north (a whisky barrel aged Quadruple) and Simple Things Fermentations in collaboration with Sunken Knave (a Red Ale aged with Wild Yeast for some funky fun).

Great beer, fun artwork, occasionally daft adjuncts, we’ve got it all. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🍻

The combination of sunshine, crisp clear skies, some beautiful fresh beer (that we teased you with yesterday) and payday has definitely given us that

You’ll have to look out the window if you want to know more about the weather but we’re happy to provide you with some information about the beers:

There are two collaborations from Verdant in celebration of their 10th(!) anniversary, a DIPA with Fidens from 🇺🇸 and a Yuzu IPA with Uchu from 🇯🇵

Pastore are back with a cocktail sour that’s half Strawberry Daiquiri, half Pina Colada, all daft and delicious alongside a Pink Lemonade sour with Sicilian lemons and Scottish strawberries.

There’s a whole bunch o’ Beak, with a crisp Pils, a Pale, an IPA and a Bright IPA for any of you that are all hazed out.

Burning Sky get a whole slide to themselves as you don’t want to miss ‘Compass Points South’, the barrel aged version of their ‘Summer’ beer which flew out not too long ago.

Head right to the last slide if you’re looking for something a little more robust, perhaps an Orange Brandy barrel aged Imperial Stout with Oranges, Chocolate & Vanilla? Or maybe some vintage Barleywine (cellared since 2012, does that predate the whole thing?) whets your appetite? I repeat: VINTAGE BARLEYWINE FROM 2012… 🤤

So, there you are. Loads of great stuff, we’re in an excellent mood, drop in and see us before this all disappears (the beers, not our mood) and the weather makes its inevitable decline.

It’s a great day out there, and a great day for Scottish beers in here. 3 new birthday beers from Overtone, including collaborations with Floc and Emperor’s and a shiny new rebrew of Pure Magic alongside 5 (count ‘em) new ‘sour scale’ beers from Vault City, ranging from the slightly sour Orange Creamsicle to the eye-popping Apple Soor. 🫨

We also saw the long awaited return of a shop favourite… 👉👉👉

🔥 NEW BEER TUESDAY 🔥

Although perhaps 💨 would be more fitting as we just got the biggest batch of Schlenkerla in (our) history, with the unfiltered Märzen, their Weizen (smoked barley/unsmoked wheat), Urbock (their most complex and smokey beer, not for the faint of heart), as well as the return of Weischel (their cherrywood smoked Rotbier) and Erle (an Alder Wood smoked Schwartzbier) which turned heads last year and then swiftly disappeared. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.

There’s more German beer in the form of Hummel-Bräu’s ‘Cowboy’ Schwartzbier (which has some of the best/worst ‘drawn on a napkin in the pub after several pints’ artwork that we have ever seen), another big beautiful mixed fermentation bottle from Burning Sky and the return of Lindemans finest, Cuvée René.

2 fresh Polly’s (you would never guess David did the ordering this week when a beer with a mirrorball on it arrives in the shop… 👀), a Citra, Comet, Enigma & Mosaic IPA and an Orange, Pomegranate & Lemon Sour.

Otherworld team up with The Hanging Bat for a Solero (the hop, not the ice lolly, although there are flavour similarities) Pale Ale and Pilot take us back to 🇩🇪, kind of, with their take on an Oktoberfest style lager. 🍻
