I would just like to say a massive thankyou to all of you for popping in, while waiting for the bus, and letting us know that you love our window x it's been lovely to hear x over the past year I've had great fun doing window displays at the shop for various events and occasions . Unfortunately as we close for the final time next week, we will be taking our Xmas display down over the weekend to put up a little something from us, to you all, before we leave x from Sarah x

Last night was amazing !! Thankyou to all of you who came to see us x we sold an amazing amount of sweets !!! The kind words from many customers on the subject of us closing made us realise that we have made an impact , even in a small way , to the village x we will miss you all too xx but we are still here for another 4 weeks !! So please pop in and see us and don't forget to have a go on our giant hamper raffle we will draw winner on Dec 17th xx lots of love to you all

Buddy the elf is at it again!

We’re so happy to say after the success of last years elf trail - it’s back. Hundreds of children participated last year.

A special thanks to Burlington Travels Bob for doing such a thorough job with this and to Pat a cake for sponsoring it.

1st prize is a childrens hamper! Including £40 of Smyths vouchers and other elf like goodies!

We know that many of you have already heard rumours that we are closing down and until just over a week ago we hadn't been told officially that this was happening. The owners of spondon news , newsteam, have informed us that they won't be renewing the lease on the shop and because of this the shop will cease trading on 24th December 😪 we are deeply saddened about this . We will miss you all xx in the mean time , in the run up to Xmas we will be trying our hardest to celebrate the time of year as we always do. We will be taking part in the spondon elf trail and the light switch on , where we will have lots and lots of traditional sweets for sale and also our very popular pick and mix sweet bags all at £1 each and will also have a huge Christmas hamper raffle . Please continue to shop with us in these final few weeks and pop in to say goodbye in the week running up to Christmas x this is a very sad time for us , our customers and indeed spondon village , where there has been a newsagents for 100 years this year !! Help us to go out with a bang and lots of friendly chats as always x
( if anyone has any questions regarding newspaper deliveries and payments of accounts please just pop in and we will explain all to you , paper deliveries aren't stopping you will get delivery as normal just payment methods will change ) again we are deeply sorry to have to pass on this news and we will miss everyone greatly but as both Mary and I live in the village I'm sure we will still see many of you ,

Willowcroft Road IMPROVEMENT Works

Between 22nd October - approx 2nd November, the junction at Willowcroft Road will be resurfaced in three phases. The works will be taking place at the following times, as night time work is not allowed due to disturbing local residents:

OCTOBER 2022

Monday to Friday: 09:30-15:30
Saturday and Sunday: 08:30-17:00

I’ve taken her home to make sure she’s safe but if anyone knows who it belongs to please leave a message below and I’ll return it to its owner. Having been on the receiving end of the upset losing a loved cuddly toy can create I hope the loser can be found.

We would just like to put customers minds at rest . We have had people tell us they have heard we are closing down... we have spoken to head office who have told us that apart from the change in opening hours there are no other planned changes for the business at all in the foreseeable future. This has assured us and we hope it assures you all too. Regarding the low stock supply of certain products we are having some difficulties sourcing them from our suppliers and as soon as they get them we will order them x

SPONDON VILLAGE IS DYING.

Here it is, our beautiful village. I’ve been a Spondon resident virtually all of my life.

I went to school Borrowood and then went to West Park. I have memories of ‘the top shops’ ‘the jittys’ chip cobs after school on a Friday.

I grew up here. I am proud of my village. We have wonderful parks, and we border onto wonderful greenery and countryside. We’re just a 7 minute drive from Derby town. We have the most incredible people who live here. Generations of Spondonians. We have/had a TRUE community spirit, I can remember 3 legged race, Spondon Day and the pride at watching the rememberance day parade.

So I am asking you as a Proud Spondon resident what can we do as traders to bring back the hustle and bustle of the village. Gone are the days of queues out the door out of anyones door on the high street. How can we help our village?

IMPORTANT NOTICE
it is with regret that we are going to be amending our shop opening hours . As trade in the village has changed so much and the cost of living crisis is affecting so many, we are having to shorten our opening times . We really didn't want this to happen but it is a trying time at present for everyone.
From Sat 10th Sept the shop will be opening from 6.00am until 2.30pm Mon to Sat
And 6.00am til 12.00 pm on Sundays.

I'm sure most of you will have heard that our manager Sue is leaving us on Friday this week😔 she will be missed but she deserves her retirement and we Hope she has many happy times to look back on from working at Spondon news and I'm sure you will join us in wishing her well for the future x

We are very sorry for any inconvenience but we are unable to take card payments, paper delivery payments and any pay zone transactions ( gas elec etc ) at present as we haven't got any Internet service at the moment. We have an engineer booked but are unsure of time frame for getting us up and running.

Our Pick n mix selection has grown in the shop today !! You can pick and bag your own selection or grab a bag of ready picked for 50p x we have also expanded our choice of jarred sweets which are as always £1 for 100g x
And we also have some flying saucers !! 60p for 50 grams or pick up a couple at 2p each x
We hope to expand the choice of jarred sweets over the coming months x

Our neighbours at Marsden brothers were broken into last night!! Please get in touch with relevant people if you know anything to help catch the person responsible . This is our village and we are proud of it and the businesses that trade here . Let us get the message over to anyone that we are united in keeping the village safe and we won't stand by and let anyone ruin the livelihoods of all of us who live and work here x
