A young mum became paralysed overnight and still has no idea why it happened two years later. Lisa Harris had suffered with nerve damage in her legs and had trouble walking for years, but led an otherwise healthy and normal life.
But in December 2020, the 30-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil woke up one morning and collapsed. Now, she is a quadriplegic confined to a wheelchair, has lost her hearing and is losing her eyesight
Last year, the mum-of-two spoke to the Mirror about how medics were baffled by her condition, and were unable to determine the cause of her degenerating nerve damage. Back in February 2022, she said: "It did more or less happen overnight.
"Iβd noticed my legs felt a little weaker than usual for a while and my balance was worse. I stood up to go to the bathroom while holding onto my partner and literally just hit the floor. Iβve not been able to stand or walk since.
βThe nerve damage has now spread and I have very minimal hand function, my hearing is more or less gone and my optic nerve is dead so my sight is also going.β
A year later, Lisa said she was still no closer to a diagnosis while her health had continued to deteriorate.
