Bright garnet red with a broad, brightening rim. Baroque bouquet on the nose, of sultanas, preserved cherry. Powerful on the palate, slightly warming, with a fine-grained tannin structure, mouth-filling and extremely long on the tongue.

ZENATO, AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2018 – 92 points
The Zenato family’s background is in Lugana, the region on the southern shore of Lake Garda famous for its whites. It later expanded to Sant’Ambrogio in Valpolicella and made its first vintage of this Amarone in 1967. It comes from southeast and southwest-facing slopes rising to 300-350m asl, which provides lovely freshness. The blend’s puppy fat fruit come from Croatina, while extra rigidity and its intense ruby, almost purple-toned) colour come from Oseleta and Rondinella. The nose is meaty and sensuous, with violets and perfumed raspberry fruit mingled with salami and green peppercorns. Lavender and sichuan peppercorn elevate the mouth-filling entry’s raspberry fruit, which is rather opaque but suffused with enough acidity to keep things afloat. The energy level drops by mid-palate, where the fruit becomes a little weighty and rich. Powdery, cheek coating tannins mark the close.
