I opted for a white wine to accompany it. The Chardonnay „Balcony“ from the Lindsay winery in the Barossa Valley with subtle wood aging did its job very well. A wonderful Sunday treat.

My first moussaka, a casserole with potatoes, eggplants and minced meat covered in a creamy béchamel sauce. A great dish for the fall season. The wine to go with it: Fresco, a modern blend of Barbera, Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir. A touch more acidity to the creamy, fatty sauce, the right decision. The wine from Longview Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, Australia, was an excellent match. Great what the Saturno family conjures up on the bottle.

It’s still mushroom season and it’s obviously a good year. I collected three kilos of chestnut mushrooms in just over an hour. Here in Bavaria, we use them to make a hearty mushroom cream sauce with parsley, which is traditionally served with bread dumplings. Incidentally, a plate like this would cost around 20 euros at the Oktoberfest 😁
To accompany the wine, I chose Grüner Veltliner from the Seifried winery in Nelson, New Zealand. This wine was fabulously good and in a blind tasting I would probably have put it in the Kamptal. This pairing is almost perfect.

Something special for my wife’s birthday: grilled leg of lamb. At this time of year, of course, with braised pumpkin, potatoes and spinach leaves. Beet is a must. A suitable wine is quickly found in my „Bodega“: The Cabernet Sauvignon from Lakeview Cellars in Niagara, Canada, was an excellent partner for this feast.

Cabernet Franc doesn’t just like beef. It also goes well with pork. Especially if it’s Iberico. The meat is coated with a herb and parmesan breading. The side dish was a potato and sweet potato mix, bacon beans and a tomato salad. Pillitteri’s Cabernet Franc from Niagara, Canada was an excellent accompaniment.
