Quebec will shortly be rolling out the next phase of its expanding recycling program; this next phase will impact all aluminum cans and will become effective on November 1st. Here’s what you need to know.

The price of can deposits will be changing—all cans with 5 cent deposit will soon have a 10 cent deposit, while all cans with a 20 cent deposit will be lowered to a deposit of 10 cents. We will also be seeing this same 10 cent deposit introduced to all cans sold by the SAQ.

Quebec is allowing a grace period of fifteen days for 20 cent cans to be returned after these changes become effective on November 1st. If you have 20 cent cans that you plan to return, we do advise customers to do so before this grace period wraps up.

We’ll include a link below to the site provided to us. It’ll give a further breakdown on these changes.

System Deployment (Article 17) : - November 1, 2023: addition of non-returnable 100 ml to 2 l aluminium cans to the current returnable containers. - March 1, 2025: extension of the deposit system to all other ready-to-drink beverage containers from 100 ml to 2 litres (examples: wine and
