It’s NEW to BWS and better than any Shandy granny ever made! Try it for yourself Friday and Saturday this week.

Two worlds collide to create the most refreshing collaboration ever. We’ve taken an ultra-crisp 4 Pines Japanese Style Lager and injected it with huge amounts of Brookvale Union Lemon Squash citrus kick for a high octane take on a pub classic. It’s full bodied yet full on. Sweet yet smooth. Tart but tame. It’s 4 Pines x Brookvale Union Lemon Shandy.

ACCEPTABLE FORMS OF ID

ID25 Policy - Proof of age verification

As a part of our commitment to the responsible service of alcohol, we enforce the checking of proof of age identification. We take the responsible service of alcohol very seriously and want to make absolutely sure that we only sell alcohol to people of the proper legal age (18+). To be on the safe side I.D. is required if you look under 25. Please don't take offence if we ask you for I.D. Think of it more as a compliment because you look under 25.

Acceptable form of ID in NSW: See attached sign from NSW Government and Liquor and Gaming Website.

To be valid as proof of age, an ID must:
• include a photograph of the person
• include a name, date of birth
• NOT BE EXPIRED OR SUSPENDED
be issued by an applicable government authority.

Images, screenshots or copies of ID are not acceptable.

Proof of age
We have a process to properly check proof of age ID documents to prevent minors from accessing alcohol.
This process will include:
• asking a customer who looks under 25 years old to produce their proof of age ID
documents
• closely checking the ID to ensure it is valid
• only accepting the forms of ID valid under NSW liquor laws
requesting a second form of ID when in doubt.
IF A GROUP OF YOUNG PEOPLE ENTERS THE STORE, ID MUST BE PRODUCED BY ALL OF THEM - NOT JUST THOSE MAKING A PURCHASE; IF ONE OR MORE OF THE GROUP CANNOT PRODUCE ID YOU MUST REFUSE SERVICE

If the requirements of checking ID are not met, then that person or group will be refused and as such are not allowed onto the premises for 24 hours. IF, in the case that lack of ID is the only basis for refusal, the person will be allowed back to purchase earlier, if they can provide acceptable ID on return. In the case of a group, none of the group can return and purchase separately until either the 24 hours is up, or the entire group can provide their valid IDs.

I suggest it is always a good idea to make sure that everyone coming to the store in a group of young people has their ID in some form BEFORE you enter the store to save disappointment.

Intoxication and Refusing service

INTOXICATION:

Under no circumstances is a team member to serve a customer who is intoxicated or who they reasonably believe may be intoxicated. If you have a reasonable belief that a customer is intoxicated, you must politely but firmly refuse service. If there are reasonable grounds for you to form a belief that someone is intoxicated as a result of alcohol consumption, you must refuse service to that person. Under NSW law, the person must also be asked to leave the premises.

We are very lucky to not encounter this extreme very often, however, when we do, the decision will always have reasonable belief (stemming from more than one valid reason) behind it.

Reasonable BeliefThis refers to what a reasonable person would believe given the situation, the relevant knowledge and facts you have and the circumstances you are in. Your reasons for refusal must not be discriminatory, for example, due to race, s*x, or disability.

REFUSAL OF SERVICE:

If there are reasonable grounds for you to form a belief that someone is intoxicated as a result of alcohol consumption, you must refuse service to that person.
Under NSW law, the person must also be asked to leave the premises.

Under the NSW liquor laws, you must refuse alcohol service and ask someone to leave if they:
• are under the age of 18 (including those that can not provide proof with valid ID)
• are intoxicated
• are disorderly or violent
• are smoking in designated smoke-free areas
• are in possession of a prohibited drug while on premises
• have been removed or barred from the premises or whose presence otherwise renders the
licensee liable to a penalty under the Liquor Act.
You must also refuse alcohol service where alcohol appears to be purchased on behalf of a minor.
If you overhear a conversation between an adult and a minor that suggests the purchase is for the minor. E.g. where the minor is asking the adult for the type of liquor they like to drink;
You witness actions between an adult and a minor that suggest the purchase is for the minor. E.g. where the minor picks out the type of liquor they want and takes it to the counter or gives the adult the money to purchase the liquor they have picked out;
If a group of young people enters the store, ID must be produced by all of them - not just those making a purchase; if one or more of the group cannot produce ID you must refuse service.

The patron must not re-enter or attempt to re-enter the premises within 24 hours of being ejected or refused entry.

A BWS policy that also may cause disappointment if not planned for is the School Uniform policy:
Serving young persons in school uniform gives the store and its team members a poor community image and heightens community concerns over Secondary Supply. Endeavour Group’s policy is that young people (persons who look under the age of 25) will not be served if they are wearing School uniform, even if they can produce an appropriate evidence of age document showing they are over the age of 18. School students are frequently in the company of other school students and we have no way of knowing if the alcohol will be passed to students who may be minors. Pass this onto your teens when they turn 18 to avoid disappointment on the day.

04/02/2024

Under 18’s MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult:

Due to changes to NSW Liquor Act on Friday 15/12/2023, Minors are no longer permitted on the premises of a packaged liquor license if they are not accompanied by a responsible adult. This means that minors can not come in just to grab a drink, or packet of chips, and can’t be sent in alone to grab a bag of ICE.

All children are welcome as always when they are with their parents, guardian or appointed responsible adult.

This change now brings NSW into line with all other states and territories that already have this standard, and really won’t affect you much.

At BWS Bingara Gorge we take the responsible service of alcohol very seriously and want to make absolutely sure that, while trying to make your experience with us the best it can be, that we are also adhering to all NSW liquor laws (Liquor Act 2007 and the Liquor Regulation 2018) as well as BWS Policies and Procedures. These laws and procedures are put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of customers, team, and the community we live in.

To help everyone have a great experience in store I will be explaining some Laws/Policies that could affect you. I am posting these in the hopes to build awareness that, while we love to do everything we can to help you, we are still running a Licensed Premise and appropriate laws and procedures must be followed. These are also available for reference from the Office of Liquor and Gaming, and our BWS website.

To help, feel free to check out the notes I will be posting, especially if you are under 25 or know someone that is, as you may not have known about something mentioned, that will prevent you being inconvenienced at a later date, either at our store or elsewhere in NSW.

Thank you for your time and support.

We’re loving local lines today, with these Island Mist hard seltzers on tasting. This is a line from the same guys that do the Wild1 organic pink gin, a local company just down the road at Unanderra.

This mixed pack of sugar, gluten, and preservative free 6% seltzers is not a line we stock currently. Today we will have the four flavours on trial for you to decide if we range them. Bottles are available in a mixed or straight 4pk and would retail at $28 if we chose to get them in. Let us know what you think!

Earlymark from work on this 40 degree day, so I’m straight home to the pool with an OVATA Mimosa slushy.

Made my way: Slushy pineapple juice, lots of ice, crushed orange zooper dooper (yes, you read that right), chilled mandarin slices and your fave sparkling wine (or lemonade/soda water for non alcoholic version). Add a dash of grenadine to finish it all off (and a tiny umbrella too). So good!

Happy FriYAY!

We have a new Chardonnay Pinot Noir Sparkling on tasting today. OVATA by Oakridge is a sparkling wine made to share and celebrate any occasion. With aromas of fresh Fuji apples, citrus curd and white flowers on the nose, overlaid with more complex notes of brioche and toast.

The palate has a fine creamy texture and focussed drive with a slightly savoury textural finish. The vibrant freshness of the chardonnay, the dominant variety in this blend, is complemented by the depth and intensity of the reserve selections to create an elegant and stylish wine.

Rocked the Acca Dacca shirt for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day. Loved the Aussie tunes on BWS radio while I worked today too!

BWS got in on the day to celebrate Aussie music and raise urgently-needed funds for music workers. Any money raised will go directly to Support Act, which helps every person in the music industry doing it tough. Your local ALH venues will be featuring Local Aussie bands too so get in on that!

I’ve been to plenty of local bands and they always have the best energy!
