Thanks to all who attended our guests at Bennelong for our tasting dinner.
On a delightfully warm Sydney evening, the excellent staff at Bennelong had already double-decanted the wines prior to our arrival.
Upon arrival, guests enjoyed champagne and canapes, and Peter Gilmore joined us to spend a little time with our guests and take photos.
Peter took the mic, and we enjoyed the artwork the Bennelong team had plated up. The chorus of wines was in fine voice, with imports and Australians dueting in brackets.
Our Head of Auctions, Michael Anderson, and Oakridge Head Winemaker, Dave Bicknell, bounced off each other; inspired by the wines, they provided incredible insight and storytelling to accompany the wines.
The highlight of the evening was David showcasing his unique project, the first vintage of the 2022 Oakridge Apex Twin Yarra Valley, against a 2019 Olivier Leflaive Corton-Charlemagne. This pairing was a clear statement of intent with his ambition to make what is undoubtedly to become Australia's greatest chardonnay. Australian chardonnay is in such a good place today; the fruit is premium, producers are confident, and the market is responding. Why not take on the world?
Oakridge's Apex Twin is a single barrel of Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Just seven people worldwide had tasted this chardonnay before the event.
