What exactly is a 7+7 triple maturation whisky?

Its the latest LIMITED RELEASE from cult Indy Bottler, Whisky In Isolation and their ‘Magnificent Seven’ Apera, then first fill Apera, then maple syrup release.

In this case it starts with two 6.5 year old Chiefs Son Distillery French Oak Ex-Apera casks. These were then married into one fresh Apera cask for a further 6 months. This took it to 7yrs, and 1 month old – the oldest EVER Chief’s Son.

The 7 (and a bit) year old marriage was then transferred into none other than an ex-maple syrup cask for 7 months. Yes, you heard that right – an ex-Rye whisky cask that was used to barrel-age maple syrup. And boy howdy did that make it POP! The result is a massively lush and lavish full-bodied whisky with so many layers.

Bottled at a luxurious and un-chill filtered 58%abv – so you get every single skerrick of the flavours and mouthfeel this amazing collaboration has to offer - The 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙠𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙄𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 ‘𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣’!

From two absolute Scottish whisky legends – the Caol Ila Distillery in Port Askaig and independent Bottler Signatory Vintage, this month a classic 11-year-old non-chill-filtered Islay spirit and bourbon cask maturation single malt for the ages.

From their ‘Un-Chillfitered Collection’ – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐨𝐥 𝐈𝐥𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟐!

An absolute blast of an evening with the Brisbane round of The M&H Distillery tasting tour! 6 fantastic M&H expressions - 4 of them otherwise unavailable in OZ. Was a pleasure to meet and chat to head distiller Tomer Goren as well as catch up with my old drinking buddy Tal Chotiner both during, and after, the event! I also got to meet one of our members - Julia - which is always nice.
Big thanks to David Ligoff and The Whisky List for a very enjoyable, and educational evening.

Fantastic kickoff to Whisky on the Murray at Corowa Distilling Co. last night with the Distllers Dinner. Absolutely awesome menu, brilliant banter and all the news, goss and happenings in the world of distilling down on the border - all in one of the best rooms I’ve had the pleasure of dining in. Oh, of course some brilliant whisky as well thanks to Backwoods Distilling Co., Ballarine Distilling and Corowa Distilling Co (their new release Dhungala is sensational! Get to their website and grab a bottle before it’s all gone!).

Thanks very much to Dean,Beau, Lauren and the whole Corowa crew for a fantastic evening. Can’t wait to get amongst the tables at the festival this arvo!

Previously the owners of Islay Icons Bowmore and Auchentoshen as well as the highland Glen Garioch distillery, the Morrison family is now independently selecting and bottling Islay single malts under the ‘Mac-Talla’ brand.

Just bought my tickets for 'Whisky on the Murray' down at Corowa Distilling Co. on the 21-22 of June. I've heard great things about this event, so I can't wait get down there for my first time! A totally paddock-to-bottle, award winning, single malt whisky! The own-grown barley is fermented and distilled before being filled into a mix of first fill bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and STR (Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred) casks. Bottled at a perfect 46%abv.

Did you know that Cape Byron Distillery was co-founded by a whisky legend?

That’s right Jim McEwan, MBE – 52 years in the whisky industry, three times international ‘Master Distiller of the Year’, Master Distiller Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award Winner 2014, 15 years head distiller at Bruchladdich, and now… co-founder of Cape Byron.

So for our Members Extra...drumroll please...their first peated release – 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗕𝘆𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗸.

This whisky was crafted using unpeated malt that was matured in an ex-Bourbon cask and finished in ex-Chardonnay cask, and then married with peated ex-Bourbon cask for that extra dash of flavour layered in.

Bottled at a satisfying – but not over-the-top 51%abv. A lick of smoke, nothing overbearing, just enough to go hmmm…. WOW!
