The journey of each cask is an important part of the cask selection process for the team. Whether it's the forest where the oak is sourced or, in the case of second fill barrels, the producer that previously filled it. For this special Project Release, they chose barrels sourced from a family operated winery in the Barossa - Dutschke Wines.
The cask was used to age Dutschke Wines’ 9 year Tawny Fortified Wine and was delivered to us fresh and dripping wet, without re-coopering. The cask was immediately filled with mature Straight Rye Whiskey and allowed to mellow for a further 4 months.
This short resting period in such fresh barrels results in a deliciously well-balanced whiskey that envelopes the spice of The Gospel Straight Rye with the rich sweetness of the Tawny. Huge biscuity flavours, soft vanilla, stewed fruits and rich baking spices. Limited release so get in quick. There are only a few bottles available. 🥃

Did you know, The Chivas Brothers received a royal warrant to supply fine Scotch Whisky to Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle in 1843. Thus the “Regal” in the name. In 1953, when the current Queen Elizabeth was coronated, as per tradition, she was greeted with a 21-gun salute. As official suppliers of Scotch Whisky, Chivas inaugurated an honorary release of their signature Whiskey, suitably named “Royal Salute.” This is a complex and rich Scotch Whisky with hints of chocolate, lemon, coconut, and tea. The whisky is aged in oak casks for 21 years before bottling.
