First Creek Wines wines has been on the scene in Hunter Valley since its inception in 1984 by the Silkman family. Recent successes have been spearheaded by their outstanding winemaker Liz Silkman. Liz’s first achievements began way back in 2006 when she was crowned ‘Dux’ of Australia’s pre-eminent wine school, the Len Evans Tutorial.

From there she has gone from strength to strength becoming the only winemaker in history to be awarded the Winemaker of the Year three separate times at the Hunter Valley Legend & Wine Industry Awards (including most recently in 2022).

What's the deal with Orange Wine?

No, it’s not made from oranges, doesn’t really taste like oranges, and is most often not from Orange (although if it is, we like to call those wines Orange Squared). The name comes from the colour of the wine in the glass – Orange, simple huh?

How does it get to be that colour you ask? Typically, white wine grapes are tossed in the crusher and then have their skins removed while fermenting to create the normal non-tannic white wine style. In the making of Orange Wine the grape skins are left in while fermenting creating a fuller body, tannin texture, and of course - that orange colour.
