2020 Benedicte & Stephane Tissot Arbois Chardonnay Patchwork

Region: Jura, France

Grape: Chardonnay

On this week's blog, we introduced the topic of sustainable, organic, and biodynamic wines.
The Tissot family is serious about quality. They plant savagnin and reds on clay to increase acidity and grow chardonnay on both clay and limestone, fermenting it with wild yeast in a reductive style.

2022 Domaine Gramenon Côtes du Rhône 'La Belle Sortie

Region: Rhône Valley, France

Grape: 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah

Domaine Gramenon uses minimal intervention in the vineyard and cellar. 'La Belle Sortie' features hand-harvested grapes from organically farmed vines. Fermentation with natural yeasts and aging in tanks and neutral oak barrels preserve the fruit's purity and terroir expression.

Curro Bareño and Jesus Olivares craft the extraordinary Valautin Garnacha. Translated as "Crazy House" in Italian.

The Valautin Garnacha reveals captivating aromas of red berries, subtle florals, and a mineral undertone. On the palate, it showcases a unique tension and vigour characteristic of the high-altitude, granitic soils.

🍇🏞️ Wine of the Week: 2022 Domaine Gramenon Côtes du Rhône 'Sierra du Sud' 🍷🇫🇷

In 1990, Michelle and her husband Philippe established the winery, complete with ancient vineyards boasting 100+ year old vines. Tragically, in 1999, Philippe's life was cut short in a hunting accident. Devastated yet determined, Michelle continued the winemaking tradition, following her husband's blueprint in the vineyards and the winery.

Michelle, with neither Philippe's reputation nor experience, persevered. Over the vintages, she developed a unique style, producing finer, more layered wines. Assisted by her son Maxime-Francois, who returned from his schooling and work experience in Burgundy, Michelle farms the vineyards organically and applies careful, natural handling in the winery. The wines reflect a quality of effortless elegance and exquisite balance.

🍷 Tasting Note: 'Sierra du Sud' enchants with vibrant red fruit, subtle spice, and a lingering, graceful finish. This wine promises to evolve elegantly with a bit more time in the bottle.
