Hi, I’m Damien Moffatt, the founder & Director of Tokugawa Whisky.🥃

I founded this company, on a belief I wanted to share, that is strikingly prevalent through out Japan, but yet, somewhat foreign to outsiders - “Wabi Sabi”.

Literally, Wabi Sabi means to put emphasis on simplicity and purity – the beauty and awe of all things humble, imperfect, and unpretentious. To appreciate something in its simplest form, for there in itself lies beauty!

This mind set is what has driven Japan as a culture to create some of the worlds best whiskies. I wanted for all Australians, to experience & enjoy these offerings, but at cheaper prices than what was being offered - without having to travel to Japan!

To do this, I have drawn on decades of experience and relationships, having learnt the culture and language while living and working in Japan, and having family live there, provided me with a deep insight into the intricacies of how fine products, such as Japanese Whisky and other liquor products have come about.

With this insight, I was able to capitalize on my unique position, and bring to Australia, so you too can experience and learn of "Wabi Sabi". Hopefully with this knowledge, you too can have a greater appreciation, and enjoy some of Japan’s finest whisky and liquor products we have on offer.

Apart from Single Malts, Suntory also produces a premium series of blended whiskies under the label 'Hibiki' (meaning 'harmony'), usually containing a high proportion of Single Malt (upwards of 50% according to one of the company's blenders). Thirty different malts are employed from Suntory's three distilleries, most with an age well above 21 years.

Yet again, Hibiki 21-Year Old was selected as the best-blended whisky in the world at the World Whisky Awards 2017. Hibiki has been awarded every year at the WWA since 2009. The judges described it as being “Elegant, sweet and complex. This whisky is full of dried fruit, orange peel, strawberry jam, and baked apple from start to finish. Smooth, subtle, and fairly short.”

Obvious collector appeal here, but we'd like to imagine this one being appreciated for what's inside the bottle.
