A horse-powered vineyard? Meet Alberto Coffele’s game-changing approach to sustainable viticulture. Here are a few ways a horse beats a tractor every time…

No pollution - no need for fossil fuels
No noise - just the rhythmic cadence of hooves
No soil compaction - a horse is much lighter on the land
Naturally nourished soils – the horse gives back what it takes

Because crafting great wine starts with caring for the land. 🍷🌍

The acidity is effusive, transparent and natural, like a freshwater stream running long. Dangerously easy to drink, showing complexity and beauty.' - 94 points

The view of the vines of Tenute Sella overlooking the Italian comune of San Sebastiano.

Working with old established vineyards like this one undoubtedly means additional costs and lower yields, but these vines, with their deep roots, produce grapes that profoundly reflect the terroir of their origin.

Lessona and Bramaterra are the flagship wines of Tenute Sella. Nebbiolo forms the base of both blends, Lessona with a small amount of Vespolina and Bramaterra with small amounts of Vespolina and Croatina.

In Lessona, the vines are planted on mineral-rich sandy soils of marine origin, whereas Bramaterra has porphyry soils with very high acidity (low pH). These wines represent more refined and fragrant examples of what Nebbiolo can deliver, with incredible minerality.

Piedmont is an Italian wine region nestled between the foothills of the Alps and the Apennines. It is home to Tenute Sella, a family-owned wine estate.

One of the most important wine-growing regions, not only in Italy but in the world, Piedmont borders the Liguria and Lombardy regions in Italy, with the Alps forming a natural boundary to the northwest, separating it from the French region of Provence.

The most renowned subregions of Piedmont are Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera d'Alba, however, there are many more subregions garnering international interest and acclaim in recent years, particularly in Alto Piedmonte. Regions like Bramaterra and Lessona are on the rise, producing exceptional Nebbiolo-based wines celebrated for their structure, elegance, and aging potential. The cool alpine climate and diverse soils contribute to the unique character of the wines, offering vibrant acidity and complex aromas.
