New year, new wines from Tasmanian producer, . Introducing the Auburn Series. Here is what Paul Edwards from The West Australian had to say about them...

2023 Auburn Chardonnay | 92/100

Bright and effortless, this Chardonnay dances between crisp lemon zest, spiced apple, and honeydew, elevated by a whisper of patisserie spices... its refreshing lightness makes it a charming alternative to the boldness of WA Chardonnays.

2023 Auburn Pinot Noir | 92/100

If “pinosity” is a word, this wine defines it. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, and a hint of petrichor invite you in, while silky texture and vibrant cool-climate freshness make it the perfect lighter red for summer sipping.

2023 Block 3 Pinot Noir | 94/100

Complex and captivating, the Block 3 offers a darker, more textured take on Pinot Noir. Wild strawberry, rhubarb, and a savoury herbaceous edge meet delicate cedar undertones. Pure, vibrant, and ever-evolving, it’s a bottle worthy of its single-block prestige.

Meet Federico Basso, who, along with his cousin Brunella, operates the family-owned winery Villa Raiano in Irpinia, Campania. Their vineyards, a patchwork of small plots passed down through generations, present challenges but also incredible opportunities, allowing for diversity in the wines and endless experimentation in the winery.

This approach is particularly significant for the Fiano grape. As Federico notes, 'Fiano can express itself differently in parcels and is terroir sensitive...' Inside their gravity-fed winery, over 90 small-batch tanks—including amphorae and concrete eggs—are dedicated to micro-vinifications and single-vineyard bottlings. For Federico, this spirit of innovation is key: 'Irpinia is the future because of the ability to experiment…'

The story of Coffele Wines began in 1971 when Giuseppe Coffele, a headmaster at the local high school in Soave, met Giovanna Visco, the last heiress of the Visco family. With a winemaking heritage dating back to the mid-19th century, the Visco family owned a prized 25-hectare vineyard in Castelcerino, the heart of the Soave Classico region. Giuseppe embraced this lifestyle change, quickly developing a keen interest in winemaking and viticulture. Together, Giuseppe and Giovanna became custodians of the family vineyard, discovering a joint passion for the land, the vines, and the craft of making excellent wine.

Today, Alberto and Chiara Coffele carry the legacy forward. Alberto, a self-proclaimed “young traditionalist,” oversees every step of production as Winemaker, while Chiara shares the family’s creations with the world as Sales Manager.

A horse-powered vineyard? Meet Alberto Coffele’s game-changing approach to sustainable viticulture. Here are a few ways a horse beats a tractor every time…

No pollution - no need for fossil fuels
No noise - just the rhythmic cadence of hooves
No soil compaction - a horse is much lighter on the land
Naturally nourished soils – the horse gives back what it takes

Because crafting great wine starts with caring for the land. 🍷🌍

New to the portfolio, Coffele Wines recently received a stunning review from .suckling for the 2023 Ca’ Visco Soave Classico...

'By far the best wine of the line, managing an effortless meld of freshly sliced orchard fruit, fennel, alpine herbs, pistachios and a thread of salty freshness. The acidity is effusive, transparent and natural, like a freshwater stream running long. Dangerously easy to drink, showing complexity and beauty.' - 94 points
