Serrat 2023 vintage release is now available.

This is one of the most highly anticipated releases amongst the hardcore geeks each year. Crafted by Tom and Nadege Carson (Tom's other gig is winemaker at Yabby Lake), these wines have a formidable reputation.

The cool La Niña vintage resulted in tiny volumes but excellent quality. The Serrat wines are all produced from low yielding, close planted vineyards which deliver concentration and complexity.

For the first time Serrat have released a pinot from Tassie - only a single 500l puncheon was produced so this is one for the collectors.

These wines offer excellent cellaring potential. We only have a few bottles of each to offer so please visit us in store or hit our DMs to order.

Earlier this week I was lucky enough to taste a selection of wines from one of Australia's most important wineries, in the Barossa.

The highlight was undoubtedly the 1924 Para Vintage Tawny. Incredibly unctuous, intensely sweet yet savoury, bitter molasses, prune, date, xmas cake crust, orange pith, nutty and saline finish that goes on for hours if not days.

The rest of the lineup was seriously impressive, looking forward getting a selection of these wines into the shop in the weeks ahead!

22 Parea Blewitt Springs Shiraz.

This is a serious, contemporary style of shiraz made by three seriously talented wine geeks from a small family owned vineyard in McLaren Vale.

Dry grown, hand harvested, 53% whole bunch and 18% new French oak. Less than 200 cases produced.

The lifted nose shows violets, blueberry and sweet spice. Seriously polished, there is an abundance of plum, sweet black cherry and black olive tapenade on the palate, with grippy tannins and bright acidity.

This is a cracker, come in for a taste today!

By Farr winter 2024 release has just been delivered!

2023 Chardonnay By Farr - the smallest vintage in 20 years deivered exceptional quality as always. Natural fermentation in 30% new French oak, in which the juice remained for 11 months before racking and bottling. 'The perfect chord'.

2022 Farrside By Farr Pinot Noir - a cooler and darker site than the Sangreal vineyard, producing 'a more masculine and edgy wine'. 50% whole bunch, 60% new oak for 18 months.

2022 Shiraz By Farr - cofermented with a tiny proportion of viognier, 20% whole bunch, 18 months in 20% new French oak. 'Impeccable, so unAustralian it's not funny'.

We also have a few bottles remaining of the 2021 Sangreal Pinot, and Cote Vineyard 21 Pinot and 22 Chardonnay.

Sometimes you need a break from being surrounded by booze all day. So for a change of scene we decided to check out Clonakilla cellar door in Murrumbateman, just outside Canberra.

Highly recommend the chardonnay, riesling, pinot and the 22 shiraz viognier. Great tasting set up with friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Bell Hill pinot noir is one of NZ's most highly sought after wines. Incredibly rare, this new world icon rivals the world's great pinot noirs and will reward patient cellaring.

We have just received a small allocation of the 2019 Bell Hill pinot noir and the Bell Hill Old Weka Pass pinot noir.

From a vineyard planted on an old limestone quarry in Canterbury on NZ's south Island, the vineyard and winemaking are heavily influenced by traditional Burgundian techniques. The close planted vineyard is cropped low and organic certified.

The bunches are 100% destemmed before spending 23-28 days on skins. The juice is basket pressed into 100% new French oak for 12 months. Only 8 barrels of the estate pinot noir were produced, and just 1.5 barrels of the Old Weka Pass.

The 2019 pinot noir received 99 points from wine writer Ken Gargett.

We've been lucky enough to secure a tiny allocation of legendary, cult Burgundy producer Prieure Roch's 2021 release.

Established in 1988 by Henry Roch, co-director of Domaine Romanee Conti, these wines are produced biodynamically, with no synthetic products used in the vineyard or winery. The wines are fermented as whole clusters, utilising only native yeasts and no fining or filtration.

These wines represent the truest expression of their sites, made the way wine has been made in this region for millennia, incredibly complex and rewarding. Production volumes are minuscule.

The wines of the Clos des Corvees monopole are produced using only 'millerands' - undersized yet fully ripened berries, delivering exceptional concentration.
