In early 2015, well-travelled printmaker Sylvia Moritz, with an already flourishing art career, saw cities as more than a complex collection of buildings that we travel through to get to work. They were immensely detailed, with a new story around every corner. Sylvia combined this observation with her meticulous drawing ability, to develop a unique series of London-themed patterns. With the help o
f her design partner Rowan Ottesen, the pair created products with the idea that the people who love to live the city life, could hold, wear, send or even colour-in a product that feels unique to them. Named so because of its ambition to work hard, like a mini factory, to create quality products with the urban vibe. Based in London, we're now a fully up and running brand of urban-themed gifts, stationery and accessories; constantly aiming to capture the charming complexity of our towns & cities through detailed illustration. As our ideas evolved, we realised that cities were social places of course, and that whatever we made should have input from the very people that make cities the vibrant places they are. Which is why, as our collections evolve, we'll be constantly asking what people think, what landmarks should be included, and holding votes for what city our latest collection should be based around! We think there's a street for everyone in The City Works. Whether it’s a souvenir for the travellers or a memento for the natives, a collectible for the curious or a gift from the generous; we’re dedicated to providing unique design that you can get lost in for hours, without getting bored. All of our designs start off with just a pen and paper. And we're not just talking about sketching ideas – every product pattern has been drawn by hand. This drawing is then vectorised into a digital version which is then tweaked, rescaled, and colourised, so it's just right for whichever print method we'll be using. Our merchandise is designed in-house and manufactured in the UK. As much as we want you to have your very own City Works, we’re protected by Copyright © The City Works 2015.
